You know, just stay away from horses, kids.

I was looking up most dangerous sports to see where horseback riding lies. I can across a website where it was 6th, and here is what is said under a picture of someone getting bucked off:
"Like lacrosse, we don’t have enough data on horseback riding participation to know what percentage of riders get injured. But since horses are kind of expensive and difficult to care for, we’re going to assume the vast majority of people don’t ride no horses. And that makes the 316,000 injuries reported last year pretty astounding. We’re talking 3x the number of injuries as in hockey, but there’s no way there are as many horseback riders.

So just say no to horses, kids. Your parents (and their checkbooks) will thank you."

Just say no to horses? Why? People say its dangerous, but I would never give it up for the world. I don't think people realize that it is so much more than a hobby or past time, it is a lifestyle and so many people's lives revolve around it. It isn't just something you do. You put your heart into it, and into your horse, and he gives his back. You have a bond with an animal 10x your size. I understand parents don't want their kids getting hurt. "Just say no to horses..." being a horse centered teen I can't even put into words how much those words annoy me.
Rant over :)

I honestly just died a little bit inside after reading that.

MTA: If anything, this is just going to optimize that equine 'snobby-rick' stereotype. I got a magazine a long time ago, which I don't even remember subscribing to--and it wasn't even about horses (well not this particular issue), and on the cover it had a girl jumping a horse and off the side in big white words it said, "Equestrians. Rich snobby girls and their sport!"

I hope someone informs them that I am 100% sure that more than 350,000 people ride horses.

No way there's as many horseback riders? I know at least a dozen people who ride and own horses yet I don't know one single person that plays hockey. -sigh-

there in the midst of sacred pollen hidden, all hidden he; how joyous his neigh

They clearly state in the article that they haven't actually done any research. Personally, I think it is bogus and should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not talking about just the horse riding part. I don't understand why anyone would put out an article like that without first finding out the facts. Seems a ridiculous waste of time to me.

Horseback riding can be dangerous (and expensive) but I think it's too bad how horseback riding is looked at by some people. You know what, I just think in general it's a horrible thing to do to judge. Walk in our shoes (or boots) before you come to conclusions. That goes for anything.
