English saddle is definitely more of a challenge than Western saddle.

As for the whole "real riders" debate... in my opinion, nobody can call themselves a "real" rider (whatever that means) until they've gone down a big, almost 90-degree hill on a trail out in the woods ó that really puts all your skills to the test!
Does that mean I'm a "real" rider, then? lol becasuse I have gone down one very steep. They had to slide on their butts down it.

How stupid!

There comes a point in every rider's life when he wonders if it's all worth it. Then one look at the horse, and he realizes - it is.

I guess I could be classified as a 'real rider' too, since I've ridden in the Grand Tetons. Used a Western saddle though, since that's what the ranch provided.

You haven't lived until you've ridden down or up the side of an actual mountain!

Sweet, I'm a real rider too. I've even got the scar to prove it from the horse jumping the creek at the bottom of the "hill", landing in boggy ground, panicking and slamming me into a tree. Then we got lost in the mountains..... It was a really fun day. Suppose that's what I get for believing the cowboy knew where he was going.
