Circle trouble

The horse I'm riding hates riding in circles. She'll lunge, quite well and in different size circles up to the trot, but it's a bit of work to get her into the lope. When there's someone on her, though, she absolutely refuses.
I was 'lunging' her with my cousin on her and she absolutely refused to trot--she came after me like she was going to bite. Finally, she started trotting. Later, I jumped on her and she would trot in circles for me but she wouldn't lope--bucked every time I asked. I thought maybe she was in pain, but she lopes without complaint as long as we're not circling, even if we're turning. (checked right away.) Finally, I just kept on asking no matter what she did and she started loping for a couple strides. There was nothing off with her gait or anything like that, but are there signs I should look for? Also, any advice?

is this residual or was it a temper tantrum???

Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged by the size of the task, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.

I've only ridden her a few times, but both times I tried to circle her she was bucked and refused to lope.
