Liberty Challenge

Quarantine is getting to me....

I just signed up for a 1 week Liberty Challenge. It was only $15 so as long as I get something out of it I'm a "winner" I suppose. It's an online thing. I'm not sure how it will work - I'm assuming there will be daily videos and exercises ... I'll probably have to submit videos of my progress? I'll get the details today I think.

Ground work is my WEAKEST horse related thing. I'm awful at it. I am not assertive enough or I go from zero to way to much too fast or I do it completely wrong... and to top it off - I've never done anything Liberty before and only know what I've seen on Heartland!

I should have put this in the journal section - nah... I want you guys to make fun as I go! LOL...

Oh, fun. I'm sure we wouldn't laugh at you. With you....

Some horse people change their horse, they change their tack and discipline, they change their instructor; they never change themselves.

So the liberty stuff was really fun and I ended up winning a year subscription to the leadership club (which is normally a $19.99 per month cost) so that was pretty exciting.

I mean you can tell that I had no idea what I was doing but I have to admit - it was really fun and I do feel like me and my horses ended up with a pretty good bond.

This isn't Liberty but I got brave at the end of the challenge and gave it a whirl...

loosie, waresbear and Danneq like this.

Nice! My internet's super slow ATM so I'll have to come back to watch your vids later.

That’s pretty cool. How did you start that? I’d like to try some of it. Any tips?

The first step is almost like ground tying. You basically have them stand while you back away or you can back them up and then have them stand until you call them to you. Once you get them coming then you move on to the next step - which is follow. You do it will a really long line that is loose enough that you are not tugging or giving any pressure to the halter - the horse is following. Then you move on to each step but you just do the one step at a time. That video of me in the rain was actually me and Rileys first day so he picked it up really quick. The How To videos that I used are on the website but it's a pay to play site so I would google Liberty How to Videos and see if any of them give you the break down. There were a few that I found. I never did figure out the side-pass.

Thanks! I’ll have to give some of it a try. I’ve had success before with join up in the round pen. But never tried it at liberty.
