I mostly agree with elana but I don't think you should deprive a horse of water to get to cozy up to you. If you work a full time job you are depriving a horse of water for 8 hours at least. Thats cruel. Grain you control and the comes to you to get. Water the horse in this heat regardless of how big a dink its being.

Also for what its worth, don't let your horses past dictate its future. It had a rough start that does not mean it get to be a dink for the rest of its life.

Were it me, this horse would spend some quality time in the roundpen.. trot one way then the other till it's nose is down and it's licking MY three days and it would unequivocally understand who is in charge, and it would be walking to me when I allowed it to stop. then we would go for another ride and everytime it even thought about misbehaving we'd be doing circles and figure 8's till I was ready to puke... if that didn't solve it.. rinse and repeat

My Vet and Farrier are currently splitting my childeren's inheritance.
