Nishkin Okchakko; Outback the Medicine Hat Horse
So. Every morning, every evening, I'm checking this kill pen mare my daughter bought pregnant back in October. There was some question on her actual due date, she was sold as eminently pregnant, she was stressed and actually kinda looked like she might go into labor when she got home from the kill pen.
We've watched... and waited... and had vet check ups all winter. No baby.
Sally was to the miserably huge stage the last few weeks and my evenings have been spent in the pasture with her and Trigger, massaging her shoulders and back, rubbing her belly, brushing her, talking to her (and the baby) and basically loving on her. She's become a sweet, lovable mare, goes to sleep while I'm brushing her.
Anyway. Every morning I've gone outside, and nope. She's still big and pregnant. Yep. She had a hard bag and bloody discharge for the past week or two.
Then this morning!
We have a medicine hat baby! All legs and pee & vinegar, already prancing and trotting around like he (or she) has springs for legs and rubber balls for hooves.
This was as close as Sally let me get... Sam (my son) and I were at the gate, she was half way across the 5 acre pasture she and Trigger are in. She hustled baby away to the other side of the rise, down toward the pond when she realized how interested we were. Trigger seemed protective and gentle, but then, when Oops was born, he and Oops were fast friends too, so I think he's going to be a protective gelding, not an aggressive one toward new baby.
Curious if this one has (a) glass eye/s or not. I had to zoom in as far as my phone would let me to even get this picture, so no idea yet.
