Thank you very much! And those are such lovely horses. I'm a sucker for Arabians and part-Arabs - your gelding looked like he had a fair whack of Polish in him - good working breed, not a parade poodle!

Hi @SueC! Thanks, glad you enjoyed my story! I love my flat hat and 98% of the time I use it for showing. I used to keep it on through a stampede string only (my hat was a firm fit) - I hate using pins and/or glue, or other suggestions friends have given me (like hair spray and tape - yikes!).

I don't use the stampede string any longer, smy hat has stretched out & it would choke me if the hat came off. I put the stampede string behind my head & it falls down my back - you can see it in this pix:

Then I turn the back of the inside leather sweatband down & put it on my head. There is a small twist about the middle in between the front/back, but it does not bother me. I have yet to have the hat some off when I do this. I can take a pix of it when I get home for clarification ...

Hello! Loved the story and photos on the "How Did You Get Your Horses" topic. Can you tell me how you keep a broad-brimmed hat like you're wearing on when riding? Over a jump too! I have trouble just keeping them on my head on the ground, when I'm gardening (it's windy in Western Australia), unless it has a string for under the chin (which isn't enough for riding, for me). Have you got hat pins? Superglue? What's your secret?
