Best riding pants

Hi there !!!

What's the difference between breeches and jodphurs (sp?)? Which do you prefer? Looks like maybe the jods are just long er than breeches?

I hve irideon breeches with knee patches and like them but wondering if there was anything maybe a little softer ? I got saddle burn =\
My instructor said it might be the riding pants I have on.

What kinds do you wear for everyday riding!? :)

I don't have a ton of experience, but so far, I like riding tights better. They are softer (like regular leggings) with the knee patches. Mine are Devonaire I think.

Saddle burns? Never heard of that! I wear Irideon breeches with patches too. I don't really like the fit, but otherwise, they do the job and I've never had issues like you're describing. They're winter breeches, so they have the fuzzy fleece on the inside which is pretty comfortable. If you find there is too much friction, you could try wearing a pair of nylons under them.

Yes! Literally looks like rug burn. I rode for two hours one day and toward the end felt a sting. Next day I looked back there-- ha!

Yikes!!! That can't have felt good! You're definitely going to need new riding pants! Or, like I said, try wearing a slippery layer underneath maybe.

rubs dont sound fun! maybe it was because you were riding so long? was anything on the saddle different? could you feel it hurting while you were riding?

breeches typically have velcro at the bottom and are a little more tight fitting around your legs, used for when you wear tall boots or paddock boots and half chaps. jodphers have straps on the bottom that go around the bottom of your paddock boot. there a little more loose fitting and fit the same all down your leg. typically you only wear jodphers if your under the age of about 12.

i really like tailored sportmans breeches, but there super expensive. ariats are really nice too. i also really like riding tights, kerrits are my first choice, they fit really nice, are durable, super comfy, and cheap!

Thanks!! I am going to look into Ariat breeches.

And I definitely felt my bottom stinging toward the end of the lesson. Nothing painful enough to make me stop. I do not remember anything being on the saddle. It was as smooth as it comes..I thought it was pretty funny

I've had burns from riding bikes before, but not horses. I am not going to go into detail on this public forum on where those burns were but you could probably guess.

It wasn't related to anything being rough, just pressure in an area I wasn't used to. Fitness, seat position, attire, and the actual seat you sit on make a big difference in cycling, and I'm guessing horseback riding is similar.

i dont like buying my breeches online. i feel like each brand has there own sizes and fit differently so buying online is hard. i dont know where you are located, but if you have a dover saddlery near you, i highly suggest going there. i know in the uk i believe its called greenhawk and its just like dover.
theres also smaller saddlerys near me, different counties sometimes have there own. there are also other small stores and outlets. you can always look up places near you online.
