Brand new horse mom

Hi guys,

I'm a brand new horse mom! My boy will be coming home soon and will be boarded at a nearby barn. He is a 4 year old gelding, paint. I've never owned a horse, so it's all really new for me and my family, but we are very excited!

Happy to hear any tips, tricks and advice those with more experience may have!

Welcome to horse ownership and the forum!

My best tip would be to find an instructor you trust to help mentor you while you're getting used to owning. It really helps!

Second, don't be afraid to post questions here - people on this forum are invaluable!

I've only got a couple decent photos. He is currently being kept about 2 hours away until I can get him moved to me. (Also yes, he is filthy in the photo.. So much mud!)

I'll definitely post lots of photos once he comes home!

He's a cutie....
Dirt and mud just adds character.

I have a soft spot and fondness for paints... {I own one too!!}
Actually, I have a fondness and soft spot for any animal with a head, tail, 4 hooved feet and smells like a horse.

Welcome to the forum. I don't own yet but do ride a handsome Paint fellow. Yours is cute! What's his name?

Don't judge someone's horse or skill because they don't compete or work with a trainer.

Sometimes they're the most in tune with each other.

We haven't picked a name (yet!) He was sold without a name, so the lot called him "Dusty", which I'm not a big fan of.

What's his story?

I'm thinking that though you are a brand new horse mum, you must have a lot of experience with horses?

Welcome to the forum!! He's not that dirty, believe me, it could be worse. He's cute though. Hope that you get him home soon.

There will be only one of you for all time. Fearlessly be yourself.
