Breakthrough Lesson!

After 25 years of not riding, I started taking riding lessons with my son. I always rode Western as a kid (actually bareback), and we're taking hunt seat lessons. The first few lessons felt SO awkward. I couldn't figure out how I used to gallop around a rough pasture bareback so easily. I mean, I was REALLY comfortable on a horse as a kid. How could that completely go away?

Yesterday was my 4th or 5th lesson, and I FINALLY had a breakthrough. I can post w/out getting an extra bounce in there, and I can lope feeling in control and natural. WHEW. I was starting to lose confidence in myself! It was such an amazing feeling.

I do realize this means I have a really crappy lesson in my future. I know they will not all be good! But, I'm so happy to have had such a great lesson yesterday.

Yeah, it really is like riding a bike I reckon... and after not bike riding for about 20 years & getting back into it(amazing what having kids makes you do!), that wasn't quite as easy as it used to be the first time back either!

I can imagine that's tough too! I have ridden bikes off & on my whole life, so that wasn't as shocking to my body.

Great job! I have been riding for a year and my mum used to ride (30 ish years ago) she wants to learn again so that in future if we get enough land for horses she will be able to ride too. Im trying to help her get confidence but when she last rode she was bucked and dragged, so i dont blame her for being scared. She also thinks she is too 'large' to ride a horse but i told she is fine to ride i hope she does get back into it so we can ride together on trails etc. SO CONGRATS!! I hope my mum will get to do the same
happy riding,
Bea
