Compressed Timothy Hay

Hello, I just bought some compressed Timothy hay for my horse and it has a lot of these hairy looking things. Are they safe for my horse to eat? She is almost 15. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but this is my first horse and am trying to learn everything I can.
Thank you.

That looks more like foxtail than timothy and I'd be returning that hay. Timothy does get a head on it but it's not hairy like that.
