ear infection

i have a pony she is about 2 years old . i don't know her history. i was able to get a halter on her , i was bathing . and I come to ears ,i noticed one ear has pus and smelled. i contacted the person to whom had her for only a month . she said to give her a penicillin . it was probally from transporting her. she weighs about 200 pounds . the vet will be out tuesday . any ideas..

I can't see how transporting her could cause an ear infection
She might have a tick related problem in her ear or something lodged in there. You have the vet coming out which is good and you should probably discuss with him/her which is the best antibiotic to use
Middle ear infections in horses are rare but an infection in the upper part of the ear can spread to the middle ear and cause serious problem
Other than gently wiping the outer ear to remove any pus that gathers there - will help keep flies away too - don't get poking into the ear or putting any liquids into it other than what the vet might give you

pus usually indicates an infection. It could be something cut her inside her ear , parasites, they also can get little cancers in the ear
, can you take a soft cloth and start wiping her out ? don't cram the cloth into her ear.

Since the vet is coming I would just leave it alone. Clean anything "extra" and maybe put fly ointment around the *outside* of her ear if needed. Unless you see something obvious (and maybe if you do) just leave it. Please update. Pictures?

That looks messy - what's the white stuff - some sort of powder?
Can you carefully wipe away all the goo and crud on this side of the ear and maybe see where it's coming from?
Just don't push down into the inside of the ear
