first big spook :O

so today was really fun. and I need to write a formal thank you to anyone who told me to ride bareback to develop my seat becauseeeeee;

the weather was absolutely mental to day, it went from perfectly clear, warm and sunny when I left for my hack, to hailing, to sunny again, and then insanely windy, causing a pretty sizeable branch to fall only a few meters infront of us, of course also being the moment I had started to trust her on a loose rein (while in a field that Ive recently started trying to keep her calm in :/ )

it felt like she dropped out from under me, and then jumped sideways, a few meters, so that we were in the stinging nettles (that are about 3-4 foot high), I lost both my stirrups and her saddle had slid so it was almost completely sideways, before she went into a canter (even when she's scared its still not enough to get her galloping lol)

I think it was because I didn't have time to react, but i went with her, pretty much completely relaxed, and cantered her a few steps so she regained her balance, before doing a ors (was not going to let her trot like a maniac by stopping her straight) before jumping off and setting her saddle back to normal...

so yeah, if I hadn't had been practicing bareback the past week I would probably have been chucked in nettles, and had a horse run either run off or run home with a saddle under her

honestly I'm also really proud of her for calming down so quickly, pretty sure she felt bad for spooking as she's not a spooky horse in the least.

edit; also I know that on another horse this could have been much much worse, but I would brag either way as I'm too used to being an awful rider lol

Congrats!!!! You might have to change your name to HappyHacker soon! : )
By the way, Your stinging nettles are far worse than the ones here in the forest next to our home. Ours are irritating but yours hurt for hours!

thanks for that fun and very reassuring fact XD
this is the reason I actually invest in proper jods and not just leggings lol

I'm just glad she's got such feathery legs so she's alright

Start gathering those nettles and eat them then there will be fewer to fall in. Sauteed in garlic and olive oil is a great way to eat them. Wear gloves when picking.

Glad that you are ok and your girl is getting better.
