Go with your gut, Folly!

You will love her. You will spend FOREVER looking for that perfect horse and possibly. pass up the one that could be perfect for YOU.

I'm excited for you!

I'm going to add my two cents-she is what you are looking for, you like her, buy her.

Teaching her to neck rein and move off your leg should be an easy fix. I bought my mare in September-she didn't neck rein. Now she does. She's not perfect and she will never be a reining prospect, but she steers well enough for my purposes-trail riding- and that is what matters to me.

My mare is a TWH. No one else at my barn rides a gaited horse. We do just fine on the trail. If we get too far ahead I stop and wait, or we turn around and head back. no big deal.

again-a calm minded, well trained horse is hard to find. I think you will be sorry if you miss this chance.

good luck whatever you decide.

A bit irrelevant but she is a lovely horse! My old riding instructor had one and I loved her! So gentle and kind for a 4 year old. Really impressed with their dispositions. Good luck and I wish you well with whichever horse you choose :)

Update: OK - I bought her :)

She's currently at the trainer (fortunately the recommended trainer has owned Fox Trotters and has a fondness for them). I had a lesson yesterday on one of his quarter horses while he worked with her,and the great news is that she shows recognition of leg cues.... so was obviously trained that way at one time, even though I don't think she was ridden anything but direct rein for the past 8 years. Can't wait to get that polished up!! He says so far her temperament seems to be 'as advertised', though we'll find out more as he pushes her of course. She will be there for a couple of weeks, and I'll be taking lessons on her soon.

Thanks everyone! - Now I'm in the hunt for a saddle... so going to hop over to another area to ask opinions. So, where on the forums should I go with those questions? "Horse Tack and Equipment"? I have some pretty specific needs and would love suggestions.

Yes there is a saddle fitting section there, and a lot of choices for saddles in the world now! Good luck.

I'm SO Glad to hear that you will be lessons on her. Your instructor can really help you if you find some holes in her training.

Happy 2015 riding!!

Hope that you fall in love with "Trot", like I did!
