Talking Getting my first horse this weekend!

Hey everybody!! New to the forum and I'm buying my very first horse!!! He's a 2 yo gelding Quarter Horse / Paint! His breeder lives 4 hours away but we arranged to meet at the place he will be boarded at (SPCA Stables in Salinas, CA.) and I will pay her $250 for the trip. After I check him out and make sure he's what I want, I will either buy him or say no thanks. But I'm planning on buying him because he has lots of great references who all say he's a calm, easygoing, well mannered, sweetie. He's up to date on all his vet stuff.. vaccinations, gelded a couple months ago, hooves trimmed up, etc. His bloodlines are awesome and she sent me copies of his registration certificate. I'm a western rider and he has an awesome history of western champs behind him so that's encouraging. :)
But for now, I just want to work on building trust, manners, a great relationship, and play groundwork games with him. Not worried about riding him. Even though his breeder says he CAN be started under saddle soon, I'd like to give him more time to develop first. Plus I believe in the importance of gaining confidence and trust and manners on the ground first. :) So this will give me time for that! I am looking seriously into hiring a professional trainer once a week (can't afford every day training) to help me with him on training. He's everything I am looking for and I am SO excited to meet him!!! Still thinking of a name and I will be out there spending time with him at least every other evening. Praying nothing is wrong when I meet him and I can buy him right there and start our adventure together!
<3 Well here he is!!!!

Cute =) what's his breeding like? Any specific plans for once he's under saddle (WP, or??)

I hope you'll be getting a PPE even if you buy him same day as meeting.

His official name is TJ Zip of Flash. Granddaddy is Zips Chocolate Chip and he's got some Hancock in there too. :) I'm not entirely sure yet, but for fun I like to barrel race and rein and WP so he might be a good all around WP boy. Ive got time to think about that though.

What do you mean by PPE?

Prepurchase exam, done by a vet. Basically a general health and lameness vet check.

I am not here to promote anythingNo, that's not true, I am here to promote everything equestrian and everyone enjoying horses!

Yup, exactly what waresbare said, pre perchase exam done by a vet. =) Always a good idea regardless of what you plan to use the horse for and it's age/breed.

He's a nice looking boy, seems like he'll make a good all-rounder for you! Hope all goes well.

Hope the exam and meeting goes well! Do you have much experience with youngsters?

The sensitivity of the internet baffles me.
