Hi from NZ

Hi, having posted in Susan's thread yesterday (alsosusieq2) I thought I should do a thread of my own to officially introduce myself.

I tend to use this username for other forums (when it is available) so you may come accross me elsewhere as well. I live with a hare, Fribbit, who you may notice is my avitar photo.

I live in the South Island of NZ in a farming town. I spent my formative years in Australia (NSW) and then moved here not quite 30 years ago. I have lived in this town/house for about 20 years. I was put on horses before I could walk, however after 4 broken arms as a child, I was not a confident rider till I left school and got a job polo grooming. When I settled in NZ after time overseas in Africa and UK I bought a nutty horse. A welsh cob, arab, hackney, thoroughbred mix. Stunning looking and like riding a ballet dancer, but he had learnt to rear and frighten 5 women riders before I got him as a seven year old. My dreams of side saddle riding died and I began to event him instead as he needed something to get his teeth into. That particular horse taught me more than any horse I have had or ridden before or since.
I was quite involved with our local hunt for quite a number of years, but have given it up since a gardening accident put an end to me being able to enjoy my riding any longer. We hunt hares in NZ with harrier hounds.
I have spent time droving, mustering, done dressage, show jumping and eventing. I have done the odd local show classes and have broken and few horses in. I have done a lot of plain old hacking in the hills and on the plain. I started a fair few horses out in their first season hunting and eventing, I have ridden and worked with horses in 4 countries and dabbled far too little in driving.

My focus has now turned to driving as my injury (CSF leak of the spine) prevents me enjoying ridig as I once did. So I turned 50 last year and have a new interest to immerse myself in.

I am down to one horse now, Fig (Figlet, Ficus, Fiddle Fig.....) as Wellington, my last hunter was put down late last year.
I have 2 dogs, Nom a doberman/rottie cross from the pound and Oops, a chihuahua/tibetan terrier/foxy? cross from the SPCA (bred by a hoarder)
I have a cat named Holly who came to me a few years ago as an adult needing a new home.
I went to the all night service station late at night just before easter and on the way home (in town) I ran over a chook. She was alive and walking when I stopped so she came home...a sorry sight, straight from a battery farm and moulting. She was never claimed so she now resides here. I called her Looney Tunes (why did the chicken cross the road.....?)
Fribbit the Hare lives in the house, but has a cat flap to go out into a 15meter x 8-10 meter enclosure.
I have two speckle park steers I am fattening for sale.
I live on 11 acres of flat and hill with a creek, old trees (oaks, portugese laurels etc..... an old stand of blue gums and a weatherboard house built in 1863. There is always something needing doing or feeding around the place!

I dabble in art and love old things and sometimes restoring them to save them from destruction.

Anyone who has got the the end of this novel deserves a virtual choccy fish (NZ luxury) and a pat on the back.

Please forgive me if I do not "like" posts, I do not do fb and am not accustomed to doing it. It does not mean I dont appreciate reading others posts.

I loved your novel, and may I 'like' YOUR posts?

I am not a big FB person, either.
your place sounds like such a nice place to be. one thing about Horseforum is that I 'feel' like I know all these people, and I hear about their lives and their horses and all, and I just know we'd be great friends, and the makes me want to go visit for a "cuppa", but . . . . they are half a world away!!

Welcome!

I love the South Island and your place sounds amazing! You have quite a menagerie!

Liking posts on here has nothing to do with Facebook here, it's simply a way to show you've liked what someone has written or agreed with what they said. It's only visible under the post you liked.

Welcome! I very much enjoyed your little novella/intro post. I can be rather wordy myself. Looking forward to seeing you around!
