Hi all! I am a 50+ mom of three teen-agers (one starts college next month)
I have been riding since I was in 5th grade, but haven't had a horse of my own for about 20 years. last summer I had an epiphany, and I realized I needed a big change in my life, so I joined weight watchers, lost 45 pounds (I am hoping to lose a total of 100, but 45 is a very good start) in February I started taking martial arts with my kids, and in January we went a little insane with remodeling a third of our house. Once we got the inside done, we added a deck and a hot tub to the outside. It's been a busy year! I started looking for a horse in May, and I finally bought one almost 3 weeks ago (I should change my name to Mom to Black Pinto...pretty sure she's not a paint). She's 8 year old, but has only been ridden on trail, no ring work.
I am loving being a rider again. I don't have her at my house, she would be all alone if she were here. The place we keep her has an indoor and an outdoor arena, and access to a lot of trails (there are a lot of rocks though, I think if I do a lot of trail riding I will need to put shoes and pads on my girl if I want to keep her sound). It's interesting training an older horse. most of the greenies I have worked with were 3-5. She's much calmer, and she learns very quickly.
I am a jewelry designer in my spare time (I do engraving on glass and wire wrapping). I have a feeling that most of my free time is going to evaporate until winter though!
