Both horses don't seam right for you.
The gelding seams to be a forward jumper, in the sense he wants to jump, or he just is not sure of how to approach a jump so goes all out. If you are willing though, you could work with him and slowly start to jump once you are 100% on ground movements with him. You should also see if he is the same way with a rider you consider to be better than you are.
The mare seam like a horse who would be a trail one. She is green for her age, and would need a lot of work to get her into a show state. If you want a horse to bring you where you want to go both horses do not fit the bill. So keep looking. Also maybe go back to your original mare, since it is a free lease.
Good luck on finding the right horse for you.
