How do I clean or oil new bridle before I use

Got my first horse a week ago and have been borrowing tack until I can get my own. I just bought a new bridle today - and I read you need to oil it or make it soft before you use it. What product do I need to buy to put on the bridle and how long before you can use it? How do you apply the oil? Any advice or suggestions welcome.....

Any tack I get, new or used, gets cleaned with saddle soap (I buy Kiwi brand at Walmart 'cuz it's cheaper) and then gets a generous application of Skidmore's Leather Conditioner.

1/4 cup of Murphy's oil soap in a gallon of water, let it soak for 10-15 minutes, towel dry with a soft cloth and let it dry. Condition it with mink oil. Works for me and the leather is soft and supple.

I also like mink oil for a conditioner. I have learned a little trick with it. Mink oil softens with heat and is then absorbed into the leather easier so applying it then leaving your tack in the sun or any warm place, or even warming it with a hair dryer does a great job
