How much is YOUR lease?

I'm not looking to lease...quite yet. Maybe in a year. I have just been reading up on it for my own curiosity and I am a little confused.

If I would like to half lease 2-3x a week--how much ROUGHLY would I be looking at? I am aware all leases vary but I was just wondering a ballpark.

Sometimes I read 350$ for a half lease--but then I also read about paying for boarding fees as well. So is a lease and boarding fee seperate?
I also know if it's a full lease--all expenses are in the leasor. But if it's just a partial lease no more than 3x a week--what is the cost of the TOTAL monthly in your area?

thanks guys ! :)

Depends completely on the owner, the horse, and whatever you work out with them. I did a full lease last year before I bought my horse. It was a free lease - no payments to the owner, but I covered all expenses - board, vet, farrier, feed, hay, and even insurance in case something happened.

My trainer is full leasing a Prix St George schoolmaster and had to pay the owner $1200 for a 6 month lease and all care expenses while she has her.

We also lease several lesson horses at our barn - mostly half leases. Lessee covers half board, feed, and hay, but the barn covers vet and farrier and they usually do 6 month contracts. No limitations on riding. They just coordinate so that riding doesn't occur during lesson times.

Board can vary. There's the pasture board places that can be as low as 100$, then the super fancy Places that can be thousands.

I personally charge flat rates for leasing my horses. Usually 125$ per month for a partial, 275$ per month for full. But lots of people will ask for board, or Farrier, or feed, etc. It really does depend on the situation and the owner

Depends on where you board and the facilities. In my area, we are on the lower end where pasture board ranges between $150-$300. Stall board is between $350 - $600 depending on the barn. The barn that I know of that charges $600 has no boarders currently. My barn is the cheapest as far as full board, yet has the best facilities in the area.

Other places, especially up North, I've heard charges anywhere from $800 - $1200 a month for board. You would just have to look at barns in your area.

I've also seen ads online for leases where they want you to pay half board for 2-3 rides per week. That would never work for me.

When I leased a horse a few years ago, it was a free lease (as Tihannah described). I paid $350/month. And this was with the mare at the barn I wanted, no limitations on riding, and lessons from her owner.

The BO half leased out one of her horses before and she charged $100/month. This included 2 days of riding a week.

As others have said, the price does vary with leasing and boarding.
Now, I pay less than $200/month for board because the BO changed from full care to self care. But, before this, I paid $350/month.

So...you paid 350$ a month..total?

And then the half lease u talked a ou was 100/month with twice a week riding--how much was board though? The 350? So that would be roughly 450$ ?

Sorry I wasn't very clear.

Yes, I paid $350/month for the free lease, but that doesn't include vet, farrier, dentist, etc.

On a separate occasion, the BO did an onsite lease with her horse. So, the horse stayed at her barn and a young girl came out twice a week to ride him. Her parents only paid the BO $100/month because it was a half lease, and the horse stayed at the BO's place.

Yes, in a "free lease" you are just paying either all or a portion of board. In a paid lease, you are paying a fee to use the horse in addition to board and/or any other expenses for care.
