Question Long Term Boots for Hind Legs

I have a paint that was diagnosed with hoof pain in his hind. He had heel pain in the left front and we have him sound with wedge shoes/pads while rehabbing his hooves. I also put him on a magnesium supplement. In the hind, x-ray shows no navicular changes, just a bad hoof angle. Vet shortened his toes and I will work with the farrier on his heels. The thing is I can't have back shoes where I board due to risk of injury to other horses if kicked. I love the barn managers as they are great with the people and take excellent care of the horses so I have no desire to move. My vet suggested boots such as easyboots or renegades, maybe even the glue on versions could work.

My question is, has anyone used a boot long term while rehabbing the hoof? If so, what worked well for you?

Yes I have done this. Not on a hind hoof though. The only problem I had is the boots started rubbing the bulb of the heel in muddy or wet conditions but this was easily solved by vaseline.

I'm going to try a rubber shoe my farrier found. I was going to do the boots but they have to be washed and tried every 12 hrs manufacturer said. I go out once/daily which could potentially still be enough but I would need another set of boots as I wouldn't be there in enough time for the boot to dry. Plus I worry about his hooves not getting to "breathe" much. Easyboot did recommend their old mac/g2s and their new boot the transition for this situation though in case it helps anyone. Renegade actually talked me out of their glue ons as they didn't feel it would work for a long term solution...they only want you using for max of 7 days. I must say I was impressed at their honesty as they didn't feel the boot would hold up for the duration or wear well for the horse. Integrity in business isn't often seen these days. :)
