Yep there has to be a paper trail and it has to go back to the original owner. I went through three owners getting copies of bills of sales. Had any of them not had the id and a description of the horse along with buyer and sellers name and information I would have been SOL. It took two years to get that one mare transferred. In the end because the original owner had signed the transfer papers and the second owner had never filed but kept the transfer papers I had those from the second owner as well as the paper trail documenting every sale. The original owner filled out a new transfer so she went directly from him to me. The registry was fine with that and it saved me quite a bit of money.
