Missing My Horse

So my horse passed away on April 11th.
She started having trouble with her breathing and we didn't want her to suffer any longer.
I just miss her so much. She was 30 years old so I know that she had a good, full life but it's just hard. A piece of me is missing.
Everyone us as a pair. It's just like a huge hole is in my heart. Whenever I go to the barn, I automatically look for her in her old pasture. It's a habit and I don't think it will ever go away. Everywhere I look, I see memories of her.
I am currently leasing another horse so he helps me keep my mind off of it most of the time. I know that she's in a better place but I just wish that I could hug her once last time. Kiss her one last time. Tell her I love her.
Sorry for this ranting. I know. But I just wanted to get it out.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Horses are truly special friends, and losing one is one of the hardest things to go through. But it sounds like you loved her very much, and I'm sure she knew that. I'm positive that she passed away feeling loved and cared for, if that's any comfort. I hope you feel better eventually :)

you will probably always miss her. I miss mine and some were put down 40 yrs ago.
You know you did the best thing for her, and gave her a good life.
Sorry for your loss.
You at least have your lease horse .

You can still do those things & they don't have to be for the last time. Close your eyes, visualize doing it & she'll be there with you.

My condolences. I understand your feelings because I still miss my old guy something fierce and I'm 6 months out from him being gone. While it's the special ones that leave the biggest hole in our hearts when they pass they are also the ones that teaches us what joy their species can bring us.

I'm so sorry! My first horse died of colic. It took me a long time to be able to get through the day without crying about it. I actually went suicidal for a while and usually if I had feelings like that, I would go ride horses to get it out of my system, but I couldn't and that made it worse. But...keep going, concentrate on the horse you are leasing, train him to do something new. Dream about your old horse, and... read this poem. I don't know who it's from, but I still read it every day and it fills me with hope.

MY GRANDEST FOAL

(author unknown)

I'll lend you for a little while
My grandest foal, He said.
For you to love while she's alive
And morn for when she's dead.
It may be one or twenty years,
Or days or months , you see.
But, will you, till I take her back,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
And should her stay be brief,
You'll have treasured memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But, there are lessons taught on earth
I want this foal to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
With trust, I have selected you.
Now will you give her your total love?
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come
To take her back again?
I know you'll give her tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known!
Forever grateful stay.
But should I come and call for her
Much sooner than you'd planned
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And someday you'll understand.
For though I'll call her home to Me
This promise to you I do make,
For all the love and care you gave
She'll wait for you, inside Heaven's Gate.
