My dream came true!

My life time goal of owning a horse has finally come true today!

I've been wanting a horse ever since I can remember and started taking lessons when I was 11 years old. After a few bad riding accidents that smashed my confidence, I stopped riding for about 6 years.

I just started up again last year, at a a new (fabulous) barn. My confidence has been on the rise and I am starting to become very comfortable around horses again. I told my instructor about my dream of owning a horse late last year while taking lessons and she went on the hunt to find me the perfect horse.

However, I had a few wants...
I wanted the horse to be somewhere between 13 - 14.2hh (as I am a very small adult). I would also like a gelding, one who has been there done that. And preferably, a pinto. =)

After looking at many pinto geldings, none seemed to be right for me. All were just a bit too forward for my liking.

I gave up the search for a couple months when my riding instructor had the idea of showing me this 13 year old, QH mare that was being boarded at the barn. I waited in the barn while my instructor went out to get the horse from the pasture.

After a few moments, in walks this stocky 15.2hh CHESTNUT, horse. I was told her name was Barbie.

She mentioned that she was trained through and through in western discipline and was a pretty good reining horse. Her owner owns three other horses and the barn, for his daughters.
However, last Thanksgiving, Barbie was kicked in her rear leg by another horse that caused some damage. She healed up well but the vet recommend no more jumping, which the daughters were looking to get into.

So, Barbie sat in the pasture for months. She wasn't being used, and as my instructor put it, "not getting the attention she deserved".

I agreed to take a few of my lessons on her to determine if she was something I might be interested in.

Let's just say, I loved her. She is a bit pushy, as she was getting what she wanted for the past few months. But, we are working on that with help from my instructor.

This is definitely the beginning of a new adventure...

Anyways, Meet Barbie!
