I looked at the medical board and Indy is on Bute and Adequan for his hocks. They are anti-inflammatory drugs, I think.
Today I was giving him a good grooming and rebraided his mane (he has a long thick mane and gets super hot under it). Every so often, I'd stop grooming, pick up each foot for a few seconds, and praise and scratch him. We're not allowed to hand feed treats, but he loves being scratched, so I figure it's a good reward. Even though I never got that hind foot high enough to pick, I could see a difference in just the hour or so I spent with him. He started to at least take his weight off of it, and he never seemed to get upset.
One of the instructors saw me, and said everyone has trouble picking his foot up, but I was doing exactly what I should be doing to train him.
I'm going to go back Friday, to give him a bath. One of the instructors offered to show me how to clean his sheath and clip his bridle path. He's going to look gorgeous!
Also, yesterday he nickered when he saw me, and I about melted!
