My local Craigslist

Everyone seems to be selling their ageing unbroken horses. One guy has two 9 year old unbroken Friesans, who are really good looking, but they've been pasture horses all their lives. No reason given.
Do you think a horse age 9 can be broken to ride?????

Of course, you just need to make sure they're healthy, and see how unhandled or handled they are.

What DuffyDuck said and I would also add: Are they really Friesiens (sp?) or some sort of draft cross (probably Percheron)? I don't know much about Friesiens but don't think they're that plentiful that they'd be left so you may disappointed to find they aren't and don't qualify for breed specific stuff. I know a few people around here who will tell you they've got a Friesien (unregistered of course) when in reality they have a black Percheron cross. This doesn't diminish the fact that they're useful horses.

Yes! I read the ad and found a bit of confusing info:
Fresian Sport Horses

That's the ad and it says they're both out of TB mares. Hum...they are good looking though.

What do you guys think? A pair of grade horses? Or a true mix?

I imagine they are probably a 'true' mix. Although I could definitely see the Grey being a percheron cross. I'm personally not a big fan of the grey. He looks like too much of a plodder for my tastes. That said, I rather like the brown. He looks like he could be fun.
This is interesting to me, because we're looking at a similar thing ourselves, but our potential horse is a 10 year old welshie

That's not the way I look at the gray horse. If you watch his back while cantering and trotting the saddle area stays somewhat level, which is likely to translate to a really smooth gait. Once again, an older horse who has not been broken. Both of these look ridable. I'm afraid to go that far cause they want them to go together. and I just can't do that.

There's nothing deceitful about that ad. A Friesian sport horse is a cross. They aren't advertising them as PB Friesians. There is a registry for part bred friesians.

They are not full Friesan, as they add says they bay is TBxFriesan, they grey is FriesanxAppendix (TB + QH).

Of course a 9 y/o can be broke, as long as they are healthy I see no reason why they could not be. Depending on their previous handling (has proper ground work been done, or were they left alone for 9 years), breaking could be a tad more difficult than if a person were to start a 3 y/o.

The grey is built for harness, not a saddle. I see competitive cross country driving with this horse.
