New horse vacination program

I bought a 10yr mare 3 weeks ago and she never got any shots from her previous owner and we donít have history or previous owners. I live in central Arkansas and board the horse in a farm with others horses around her but we donít plan on moving this horse around this year. We will just do pleasure riding in the farm.
I am thinking to give her the following vaccines schedule. Could you please tell me if it is appropriate?
Next week: 1 injection (1mL) of the 5 way shot (Fluvac Innovator 5: Equine Influenza (most current A1 and A2, KY 97), Eastern & Western Encephalomyelitis, Rhinopneumonitis Vaccine (KV EHV-1 & EHV-4), and Tetanus Toxoid Vaccine.
The week after 1 injection of West Nile Innovator + 1 injection of rabies.
3 weeks after: another dose of 5 way shot (same as above).
The week after 1 injection of West Nile Innovator (same as above).
In the coming fall: I injection of rhino and flu.
Every coming years: 1 injection of 5 way shot in the spring and 1 injection of rhino, flu and rabies in the fall.

You've covered most and not a bad plan with no history. My question would be what"s her risk factor, what if any vaccinations does the barn require, what does your vet recommended? It's easy to give them everything but for the most part it's overkill. I stopped giving WN to mine years ago. They have all been vaccinated plus exposed to mosquitoes carrying the virus on a continuous basis that they have a very high naturally occurring protection. There has not been a documented death in my county since the second year it showed up. Be aware that rhino is only good for about 8 weeks so at 6 month intervals you have false protection. I would only give rhino if my horses were exposed to large groups of horses like a show or going camping and give it for the event and not according to the calendar.

Flu is also a fall issue so giving it in the spring in a large combo shot maybe isn't the best use of my money either.

What are the core vaccines required in your area?
Give those, and additional vaccines ,according to risk factor

Please also take into consideration what others boarding horses at this place do with their animals.
If they show, go out to rodeo, go off for trail rides or clinics/lessons their horses face more exposure and possibility of being a carrier bringing back unknowns to your horse.
I would also think about Potomac if again the above scenario is true...
I don't know climate conditions and know they vary depending upon the area of your state....we do West Nile twice a year for added protection. Mosquitoes here are fierce year round!
Where I live and with the exposure my horses have my vet said Rabies is not necessary. No outbreaks have occurred and he watches closely for news of any with the livestock. If a "psst" he will be here to vaccinate and protect my guys..

I'm not sure if you mentioned Tetanus 2x a year but it comes in many premixed combos and is not a bad idea to keep your horse fully protected...horses will be horses

Welcome to horse ownership!!

The worst day is instantly better when shared with my horse.....

Arkansas is part of the "West Nile Corridor" and rabies is considered endemic in many states. I would not miss rabies, west nile, rhino, tetanus and flu in any year. I also vaccinate against WEE, EEE & VEE. The easiest way I've done to vaccinate is with Vetera Gold XP + VEE, it covers everything in one combo shot and then I give a separate rabies shot. The vets at OSU don't recommend redoing everything in the fall unless Rhino, if you will be either moving the horse around to different areas/facilities or live with other horses who are moved around a lot. I do give 2 Rhino shots/year. You can either redo her vaccines as if you were vaccinating a new foal, or you can have the vet draw titres and tell you what immunities she has and only repeat the ones she is lacking in. It's probably less expensive to just repeat the vaccines.

Your vet can advise you better on spring/fall shot necessity and he'll tell you what he considers to be "core" vaccines for your area and conditions.
