Smile New owner update

Hey everyone! I posted a few months ago about adopting a horse (Pearl) and worrying about building my confidence and bonding with her. Well, I've had Pearl for about 3 and a half months now and I must say, things have been going really well. So far, no major issues have popped up and the ones she had when I got her have definitely improved. We trail ride regularly now (always with others) and it's been helping us build our trust in each other. So far she's been showing me that she's not going to act silly on the trail and I can see that's she's listening to both my voice and my cues. It's been such a different experience from the last time I briefly owned a horse two years ago that ended up being completely wrong and unsafe for me. I definitely had moments in the first few weeks of having Pearl where I questioned whether or not I could really do this and I'm so glad I didn't let my anxiety get the better of me. It hasn't completely gone away but with every good ride, it gets more and more manageable. I'm very much looking forward to working with her for years to come. My husband and I joke and say I finally have the I've always wanted. Which may end up being her Halloween "costume".

Anyway, just wanted to hopefully encourage some other newbies who may be struggling with anxiety and lack of confidence. When I first started riding her, I would literally have heart palpitations before our rides. I know it's just the beginning for Pearl and I but I feel like we're building something solid and I like how it's developing.

Pearl is so cute! Awww, great shot of you two. :) I'm so happy things are going smoothly for you and Pearl. Horses really can give us confidence and help with anxiety. I, myself, struggle with anxiety issues and being around horses/riding really helps me out too. It truly is the best.
That's great she's been doing so well on the trails and gaining your trust. Progress may take a long time but it sure is rewarding, isn't it? Great to hear!

What a great update! Thank you :)
I also had a 'wrong' first horse and now have found the right one, and I know what that anxiety feels like.

I'm a mid-lifer finally making time for horses... Having a blast, but there's soooo much to learn -

I once had anxiety about riding too, now I love riding my mare, she is my little sweetie.
Pearl looks like a sweetheart, how tall is she?

Glad to hear your anxiety is improving. From someone who is currently undergoing all kinds of shenanigans to help her anxiety it's always a nice reminder that it does get better. I hope my anxiety improves once my new mare comes home! I'm hoping horse therapy is all I've been missing.

Pearl sounds like such a blessing! :') I have had my new horse for 4 months now, and I too (well both of us..) are working on trusting each other more. It's hard getting over the anxiety when both of you guys are hesitant to trust but once you both click, the bond will be unstoppable and that is all the reason to keep moving forward!
