Welcome misstralala! I hope you enjoy living in the USA. Sorry I can't help you out with any knowledge about the area you're living in but I'm sure the others here that are familiar with it will steer you in the right direction.

Bienvenue!

Can't help you with questions about California, but as an import I am quite familiar with the adjustment process

Trust me, you will get used to the longer distances between things! It took me a while, though

Welcome to both the US and the horse forum!

I never go to a tack store because I 'need' something. I go to look and end up buying stuff I really don't need......lolol

Welcome, don't worry about your English. I promise you it is better than my French, and I am pretty sure I am not alone!

FYI, it is spelled W-H-O-A.

Oh, I truly believe that there is lots of thing to do here, I am used to France which is... hum, even smaller than California!

@Avna , actually I didn't understand what are these "corrals" exactly. And Walnut Creek is really far from me, by the way (yes, I know, maybe I have to reset my distance measures, here everything is so huge/far away for me!).
Currently, I really enjoy the dry/hot weather (Both my horse and I don't really like cold and rain).
I don't understand what the 'corrals' mean either. I think it is just a cute thing to call local groups which are affiliates of the main organization.

Walnut Creek, while not being exactly close -- 28 miles --, is not out of your reach, as we measure things out here. All those other groups, I mean corrals, on that particular list, were something like 400 miles away on average. Still in California!

Another way to find riding friends is to visit the large private boarding/training stables near you (not breeding farms or horse rental places though). Each will tend to have a different focus and vibe, but you might be able to find one that is in sync with what you like doing, that offers stuff you can participate in.

Thanks to everyone for your sweet messages :)
SwissMiss, I think that it is going to take a while, yeah, to be used to these distances!
Because when I read Avna with... 400miles away, I was like "whoah, doing more than 3h driving for that..."

I should try to go to private boarding and stables near my horse, yes, but I am always thinking I could bother people. But I have to try.

Oh, and sarahfromsc, I try to not buy things I don't need, I try to minimize my consumption and impact (sweet dream, yeah?).

Hi, misstralala! Welcome to the forum! Cali sounds lovely, nice and hot I bet! I'm in MD on the east coast. Your English sounds fine, don't sweat it! :) I'm jealous of your accent too, I have a boring 'ole American one LOL

Ride more, worry less.

In America no one is ever bothered by someone with a french accent. Wear a beret. (Just kidding. Sort of).

Also, if you want to minimize your accumulation of horse stuff, you better get off this board. We are not going to help you with that! (this week I only got an extra mohair girth, another Toklat Woolback pad, a fourth or fifth lead rope, a little hang-over-the-fence set of tack hooks, and a fly mask. Oh, and a bumper sticker for my truck with a cartoon of a horse on his back waving his feet in the air with the caption "HOW I ROLL". Makes me smile every time I look at it).

It took me a couple of years to get used to the bigger distances here. Switzerland is still a good bit smaller than France . But realized just this year, how much I "adapted". Talked about visiting a Peruvian breeder in Germany and actually considered doing it while visiting family in CH after I discovered it would "only" be a 4hr drive one way

Oh and btw, 400 miles will take you a good bit longer than 3 hrs; except you're flying low
