I'll add that while gelding does make a difference, gelding late means there is a well developed personality and behavior set that went with those danglies that doesn't just go away. Consider, masculine behavioral traits start in the womb when the mare's hormones stimulate the development of the sex organs. Androgens are produced by those developing organs that affect the brain development creating a certain set of hardwiring (male or female). That has a also significantly impacts behavior gelded or not.
