In a riding sense and the riding world, what do they mean by 'pre-adult'?

I think maybe either... I'm looking at horses and it says occasionally "did well in pre-childrens/pre-adult

Are you referring to hunter classes? I am pretty sure you're referring to that, which is hunters where the jumps are generally no higher than 2'6" ish, meaning the horse has "graduated" from baby greens.

I'm with the poster above me, that's almost certainly referring to a hunter division that is run at 2'6". The children's and adult amateur hunters show at 3', so the "pre-children's" and "pre-adults" show one step below that, at 2'6".
