Question - mares in season

not sure what forum to put this under but how do you know if a mare is in season other than behavioural changes?

A lot of mares get cranky when they are producing a follicle, some get extra lovey when in heat, some squat wink and pee for everything in sight and others show no signs at all.

They tend to spew nasty stuff. Like they don't just pee, they'll spread their legs and spew icky cloudy yuck. Are you planning to breed or just wondering?
