Talk to your trainer. Ask her/him if they think you are ready for a horse, or if you need to spend another year on lessons. They can tell you whether a lease or buy would be better, and also help you find the right horse.

There can be benefits to leasing a first horse. When I was getting my first horse as a kid my parents were only looking for lease horses. But then there simply weren't any good, safe lease horses around. There is always less of a variety of horses for lease and the ones available might not suit your needs. Keep an eye out and try both. You can always get a schoolmaster and sell it in on in a year or two. As much as horses are loved and like pets for them to be a hobby most people do have to buy and sell to work their way up.

A year is not really long enough to have gained the experience to own your own horse.
Horses are very quick at catching in as to what a roder/handler does and doesn't know and most will start to take advantage as soon as they can.

Take a lot more lessons, involve your trainer, lease something suitable and keep up with regular lessons
