You can easily tell an intelligent, qualified instructor by their reaction when you tell them you have an Arabian. If they seem shocked, or say something negative, find someone else. They will put your horse down until you sell it.

DH tells people that if you say you don't like working with Arabians, it's because the horse is smarter than you.

Yup! If you don't love being made to feel a fool at least once a day, don't get an Arab! So if your trainer doesn't love Arabs, then move to the next one.

Lessons are an excellent idea! I don't know how much horse experience your husband has but since you are both first-time owners it might be good if he could get in on the lessons, or at least watch what you are doing.

Know that this is a long term learning experience. You never quit learning for that matter. Be patient with yourself and never compare your progress with any other rider.

Oh yes! They have a way of having things all figured out and being way ahead of you. Good point about the trainer though. I have seen trainers do a great job with a QH but have problems with an Arab because they don't understand them.
