Stallion & mare together?

Hi, I have a question: is it OK to keep a stallion and a mare together in the same pasture and simply separate them while the mare is in heat, or could it lead to problems such as fighting or stress on the horses?

if she is kept with a stallion she WILL end up preggo.. if there is a will there is a way

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I think it is safe to assume the stallion will tell when the mare is coming into heat before you do!

like gingerscout said, put them together and yo WILL have a baby on your hands pretty soon.

Equestrianism; 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain and 100% reason to remember you're absolutely insane to be riding a beast that big.

In addition to the above, even if the mare is not in heat some studs will continue to try and mate her and the mare can get injured or an infection from his efforts. Conversely, the stud can get hurt when the mare rejects his advances by kicking him.

We grow too soon old, and too late smart.

There is a foaling thread on the forum right now with a mini who's owners tried that method

Keep them separated (Not just a regular fence between them or you might end up preggers anyway) or you will have a foal.

If you have to ask, you likely should not own a stallion......
