Have you asked your instructors to put out some feelers as well? In my area at least, the horse world is pretty small. Maybe you should come down here for a little vaca & horse shopping.

Instructors, BO, trimmer, vet, random horse people on Facebook... who am I forgetting? Even hubby was going through the for sale ads for me today, LOL.

"You were putting a young child on a horse she was saying was safe and well trained when she knew it wasn't."

THIS. I would have been furious with this woman. She LIED to you, to the point that your 11 year old daughter could have been seriously injured while riding this "bombproof" green broke horse. Some would say there is no reason to be upset, and nothing bad actually happened. . . but how did she know that?! How did she KNOW it would have been fine? She didn't. Lie to me, fine. Put my child at risk. . .

I am glad that both rides ended safely, and with the truth before you made the purchase. It was a very pretty Paint. I do wish you all the best on finding the perfect horse for your family and situation, keep us posted! :)

Same here! There are SO many under 1k. I have never met them in person to see if they're really as good as they say they are, but there are so many that I think the market for grade trail horses is just oversaturated.

That's just not fair :(

The only ones that I'm following up on now are an 18 yr old QH mare and an 11 yr old Norwegian Fjord. Not sure either is exactly what I want. But after my last experience, I really want to be able to ride a horse more than once and on different days. I'd have to take at least a week off to make it happen and it would be nice if my daughter could come too... maybe end of June if I don't find anything before then. Heck, with the money I'd save, I could buy a horse trailer. Because even the mediocre horses I don't want aren't cheap around here.

I bet you could find some HF members to do some test rides for you and narrow the field a bit if you are preparing to take a trip.
