Top 3 Most Painful Parts of Horse Ownership

I was curious what other horse folk felt were the top three annoying, aggravating, painful parts of owning (or leasing) a horse?

I don't own a horse and am still new to this world. I would assume one factor would be the need to purchase all sorts of tack when you first start out.

Food/board/vet/farrier/water/etc. bills, injuries, labor? :P

Keep going, keep moving forward. You'll get it together someday.

Definitely, #1, making the decision of when it is time to put a horse down.

Annoying: hay season-all of it

Aggravating: poop in water buckets

Painful: end of life decisions

But to me it's all worth it.

1)health care decisions, especially end of life (painful)
2) dealing with other horse people/barn drama (annoying)
3) saddle fit tied with buying and selling (agrivating)

Also all worth it to me

#1 factor - $$$$$$ for everything. Vet (including an emergency fund,w hich can be VERY pricey), tack, feed/supplements, farrier, grooming tools/shampoos/etc., truck & trailer (initial cost & maintenance), trainer, show fees/travel costs (if you do that). 1st aid items, blankets/sheets, buckets, human clothes, etc ......

#2 factor: TIME - horses do best with consistency; trying to find time to fit is consistent riding can be a challenge

Most annoying parts of owning a horse: Flies; not having enough time to ride; know-it-all horse AND non-horse people.

Most aggravating parts of owning a horse: same as annoying for me , LOL.

Most painful parts of owning a horse: end of life decisions, waiting for the vet when your horse is in pain, not having enough time to ride.

Most painful by far is saying goodbye, whether through old age or an unexpected emergency.

The vet bills can also be painful, as can be the costs of boarding or making acreage into horse property.

1. Saying goodbye to your lifelong friend.

2. Vet bill after vet bill and knowing nothing is going to help.

3. Looking into eyes that say "I can't do this anymore" and having to say goodbye.

3. Having to be here or arranging for someone trustworthy to be here 365 days a year to provide care.

2. When something is not right with them and they can't tell you what hurts.

1. Having to make the decision to euthanize a much loved and trusted friend.
