We got scammed BIG TIME!

Hi everybody

Our country - South Africa - is experiencing the biggest drought in 30 years. It has not rained in our province at all, and there are no more green paddocks or fields. Our Friesians usually get fed in the early morning, works by mid-morning and are then turned out into their paddocks. Because we have NO grass in our paddocks the horses get hay in addition. Before we run into trouble with no hay left, we responded to several advertisements in and around our province only to hear they are sold out. So we HAD to have good faith and paid R92000 (it's not only for the horses, the cattle too) to a company in a province a good 1300km from us for hay. Enough hay to last all through the drought. They were going to deliver it as soon as possible. The money was paid and the prove of payment was mailed...

And this company magically vanished!!! With our money. And still we are stuck with no hay (luckily we found a reliable source since and the horses and cattle remains well fed).

We opened a case at the police and are now waiting for the outcome.

I am so sorry to hear that. Scammers make me so angry, especially when their scam can cost the lives of livestock and the livelihoods of ranchers and horse owners.

Please, keep us updated on the outcome of the police case!

That is horrible, we had drought issues here earlier in the year, not as bad as you, but enough to make people scared. There was hay being stolen from fields, it was crazy

It's terrible that people would take advantage of a situation like that. I hope your case has a good outcome and that you can get your money back.

In 2011, 2012 and 2013 we had the worst drought in the Southern plains since the 'dust bowl' of the 30s. In 2012, we had (in southern Oklahoma) over 100 days with the temperature above 100 degrees. many days it was 112 and 113.

Many people were scammed here on truckloads of hay that were supposed to be delivered. There were truckers that had a semi load of hay from places as far as Michigan and Wisconsin and they sold it 4 or 5 times and then disappeared with the hay and did the same ting in a different area. Most were never caught up with.

It is just like the scammers that show up after a big tornado or ice storm. They should have even tougher punishments for people that take advantage of desperate people.

So sorry you had to experience this. Cheri

Oh my... that is absolutely terrible! I hope the authorities can help! Relieved to hear you have your hay for the drought though, but regardless, still upsetting I'm sure.
