I think her conformation is pretty good! Looks sturdy, well put together, and confo wise, there isn't a setback. Beautiful TWH!

Now, about the bit, I don't really think it's a problem. If she responds 'well' in that bit, there is probably a smooth bit out there she'll go with, too. I don't like chain mouthpieces, but as you stated, OP, your trainers have her there for a reason. I know tons of Walkers that have to have that kind of bit or they'll do nothing but get in that fancy pace all over the place.

I know a man down here that rides his at a walk and a pace thing (Forgot the name) and has to keep his in a harsh(er) bit because he's a runaway without that reminder. Your trainer may have you in this bit with her to ensure you can control her.

But if she's calm, sweet, and a lovely mount, go for her! She seems like a petty neat mare! :)

But if she's calm, sweet, and a lovely mount, go for her!"

This is the part I'm stuck on. Who knows the reason but if the reason is control then not only are their other issues but I wouldn't be calling her "calm" or a "lovely mount". Don't know the OPs experience level but I wouldn't put a harsh bit on a pleasure horse for any but the most advanced riders, either. Makes me think she gets hot when they are doing barrels or something, but I've already expressed my concerns. Just want to add if the bit if "for control" then maybe it's not the most suitable horse.

ETA- nor would I use this bit for direct reining esp while running

Maybe they are working on retraining and just want to ensure the OP doesn't have any issues.

I'd definitely go for it provided the PPE goes well. Sounds like a really good deal and if you trust the people and want to continue riding with them that's even better. The most important thing is that you like her and want her and she sounds like a nice little mare!

Just to update, I did end up purchasing her :)

This is still not my tack/saddle, so that will be updated once I take her to be fitted for a saddle

Thanks, Yogi! After the holidays I am going to have her fitted for a saddle and her own tack. One more for good measure, I probably already have 50 pictures of her

Good looking little mare, congratulations. Do you folks ever haul up to Wranglers Campground in LBL? Might run into you one day! Small world.

faydesmom, no-- not yet! Although we were just talking today at the barn about when trails open back up heading to KY one weekend. I also would really love to head to the Smokeys one weekend:)
