I just remembered a dumb one from years ago. Me and a few other of the lesson girls were riding around after a lesson to cool out. We decided to see if the horses would steer by their ears. We all leaned forward and grabbed their ears and gently pulled one or the other. Most horses didn't mind (but certainly didn't steer). However I was on a newish ex-racehorse in for retraining. I momentarily forgot he was very headshy. I got a good bruise on my chin for that one.

One summer my friend and I decided we wanted to become trick riders. We were about nine I think. We tried doing all kinds of tricks on my pony. I even tried to stand up while he was moving. He was the kind of pony that would stop as soon as the rider lost their balance, so as soon as he felt me trying to stand up, he logically stopped. No matter what we did, we couldn't get him to move while we stood up. We did manage to convince him to let us ride backwards though. He walked veeery slowly and faithfully toted us safely around any obstacles we unknowingly steered him towards. He absolutely put his foot down about jumping backwards though. There was no way that was happening on his watch. Oh the things that poor pony put up with.

I wasn't apart of this one....I was riding the horse,

I was riding our trusty old mare back from the Dairy; now this mare was the best...except she had a phobia of cameras and guns....anyway I was riding home in the pitch black of night by self, and my brother jumped out from the ditch waving a torch that was flashing like a camera, and Lady just freaked out and bolted. I was screaming at my brother and holding on as best I could; Lady stopped a while and later a long way from home, she wouldn't go back that direction, so I had to ride back to the Dairy over the creek and through five big paddocks to get home..... For a long time Lady wouldn't go near that spot until I made my brother coax her through with some Gumnuts....poor little darlin.
