grain help

We have a 4 year old quarter horse mare who is a healthy weight, but having a bit of trouble maintaining it. what type of grain/feed should we use to help maintain a healthy weight? we are currently feeding her 2 flakes of all-grass hay per day, and 1 cup of alfalfa pellets. no grazing.

I have a gelding (named Indy) who I am going to start giving him grain through the Fall/Winter supplementing his normal hay and grazing during turnout. I am using him on my HS equestrian team this year (its his and my first year on the team :-)) and a lot of the time he seems to be very lazy...
