Therapeutic Horseback Riding Needs a Big Event!

Therapeutic Horseback Riding doesn't have a big event like horse racing, dressage, and eventing; therapeutic horse riding needs a big event for it to be put on the map. Most therapeutic horse riding stables have their own shows in their own states including mine (Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship), but we never get to compete together in a big show.

No one will have to sleep in dorms in this competition like the Special Olympics because some athletes are not able to sleep away from caregivers or parents; they will be able to chose where they want to sleep.

The horse show should not be a traditional horse show; it should be more like a gymkhana. It could take place at three different areas with all one different event. The winner of all three will receive a trophy and something else.

I have a petition that I will send to PATH International; it is at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/319/8...-triple-crown/.

Sorry about the double post. I changed my idea to more like the Pony Club Championships. I edited my petition.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding therapeutic riding, but the therapeutic riding I've seen has been...therapeutic. It's not about equitation or the athletic side of riding, but more about the emotional side of riding. How horses can help people with special needs like autism, PTSD, etc.

What you're writing about sounds more like a competition for riders with special needs like physical disabilities - and there are groups out there that focus on that.

As DancingArabian said, therapeutic riding is not a competitive discipline, and I think it would be counterproductive to try and make it so. The riders served by PATH riding centers are so diverse- amputees, soldiers with PTSD, kids with autism, etc- I'm not even sure how you'd even make a discipline around it if you wanted to.
