I just recently brought home a 16 year old barrel horse. The previous owners were beginners and did not know how to lunge him therefor he has not been lunged in a year or more. I am new as well. I have been around horses and rode quite a bit, but I do not know very much about lunging and how to get him started. Everytime I try to send him out he turns to face me. it also seems as if he doesn't know much ground work. He will flex his head, lead, and usually drop or give me his head, as well as back up from pressure on his chest but it's hard to get him to move off of pressure on his shoulder to the side and his hindquarters which is probably why I cant send him out. If anyone could point me in the right direction on what to start with, how to start it, and where to go after that I would greatly appreciate it!
