Hello! Need some conformation critique on a potential horse. Critiquing a horse for someone else always seems to be a lot more realistic because somehow the flaws get a bit blurred when your in hope for a new horsie, LOL. Splash is a reg. APHA (would be my first QH or Paint) 2 1/2 years old (Will be 3yro in June) he's 16.2 (seemed a bit taller!) and he is extremely sweet with loads of personality. He hasn't had much training, just very little longing. Fortunately, I have experience and enjoy starting horses for scratch. I ride/show horses in the Hunters, Jumpers and Dressage. My husband want's to get more involved with horses and we ran across this horse a few weeks ago and fell in love with him. My husband want's to learn all the Natural Horsemanship (I'm going to have him study and practice Pat Perillie) and help train the horse. Well, I eventually would like the horse to do the Hunters or Dressage - nothing too extreme but have potential and do showing. A vet is coming out next Wednesday to do a pre-purchase exam. But, I'm a little concerned with the horses conformation. Number one, is his Ewe Neck, in person is didn't look so bad ! but in the lounging pictures below (the owner sent them to me last night, this was him a few months ago) I was like Ahh!!! HOLY EWE NECK!!!!!! Granted, I have worked with an off the track TB who had an Ewe neck and was able to develop a stronger more round top line, but I can't remember if it looked like that?! Also, does it look like his withers are set back far? And, the his croup looks a little funny to me in that pic, it may be the way he's walking because I definitely didn't notice that in person. I also have a hard time distinguishing straight shoulder? My husband even said that is a bad pic of him, or is it he just has bad conformation? He looked really happy, healthy, flashy mover and well put together in person besides his very slight (from what it seemed) Ewe neck. Ok, I put the bad pic first.. LOL. Any help would be really appreciated
I'll return the favor by trying to help you all when I can. Thanks for your time! ! ! Happy Horsing! <3
