Sharp shoe a good draft team and the pulling power is immense. Always a little scary to see them pulling on ice without being sharp shod, though! A local team of Belgians went down last weekend in a neighboring town giving wagon rides at a Christmas festival. They weren't badly hurt, but it was a mess to keep them calm, get them unhitched from the pole and each other, then find someone to bring in sand to dump around them so they had traction to get up. The team's owner says he's either paying for the shoes and studs before they go out again in the winter (hard to find a farrier who will do it without hauling 300 miles), or leaving them home when there is snow/ice. I don't blame him. That team has been doing parades, wagon rides, festivals, fairs, etc. for at least ten years with no issues, but he could easily have lost both horses had they not been so well-trained and quiet to wait for help (largely from non-horse onlookers).
