@aubie add my huge thankyou for taking the time to start this weekly thread — which - I cannot - believe- another Friday -has - rolled -around🤯🤯

@ksbowman , Ki is really making progress! Maybe next time you can have Shirley video😎😎

@dogpatch holy moly you’ve had a week I hope doesn’t get repeated. Does your neighbor know what started the fire in his barn? A round bale?

@lbs27312 I can on,y imagine what happens when a round doesn’t roll out right if it’s on a flat area. My neighbor cuts them at the top of the hill allowing them to roll down to the bottom. It’s a pretty sight to see the cattle lined up at the hay😍

@Txshecat0423 your mom is doing a great job - I’d like to borrow her and I would even pay her😀😀

So while I’m writing along comes fotos of a very handsome PaInt named “Boo”🥰. I LOVE his head! Can he be ready to go in case Skip has to sit out next weekend? Where did you find him?

@LoriF I am SO RELIEVED the railroad union and the railroad settled. I was already telling DH we were going to have to “increase our inventory” on certain things if they wouldn’t have settled.

@SteadyOn , like you I sweat at the mere mention of the word. Since his heart attack, DH is on blood thinner so the days he complains about the heat can be counted on one hand. You & Elle look great I. The video!

@Knave I hope the Bull gets corralled without incident.

@JCnGrace you are doing way too much cooking. It’s a good thing you don’t live closer, I’d be knocking on your door with money in hand😂😂

1. Dogs in beds was always big no until Sheldon came along. He would pester the dickens out of Mason who was well past putting up with pestering so I gave in and let Sheldon sleep on the bed. That was seven years ago and he still gets up here.

2.. No idea about supper.

3.. I have put off the last three hours of mowing until I can’t put it off any longer, so that’s my Friday chore.

4. Not much new here but I do have a couple of Friday Fotos:

Duncan looking at the four deer who crossed thru the front pasture Wednesday morning.

Same morning, Duncan has just moved away when Joker’s (RIP) crow perched on the post, and the deer were still in the front pasture. I had a hard time getting chores done for watching all the critters:)

@walkinthewalk It appears that the fire was electrical. No combustibles in the area, just the walls. Lots of rodents in this area - ground squirrels, wood rats. Who knows! Glad all our barn wiring is in conduit! But the e-fence might be vulnerable. Have you ever seen what happens when a slug climbs across an insulator and makes contact with the wire and the T-post! POWPOWPOW! Blue arc visible from a mile away! LOL! If the insulator happened to be on the barn wall...
i am glad you happened to look over and see the smoke💐💐. Like you, all of my barn wiring is in conduit, including the wiring going up the overhang poles for the outside water tubs.

I have never seen a slug get zapped on an electric fence and based on your description, I don’t want to😂😂

@Txshecat0423 Skip would have been on the move, if you hadn’t tied him the way you did😂😂 What did the vet say about his lameness?

@Dreamcatcher Arabians I hope Snowy’s titres come back normal. It’s not easy trying to Will Them Well, is it💐💐

Your dogs do a great job of letting you know ”Who’s The Boss”, lol. Remember that tv show with Tony Danza?

I only got two hours of mowing done. The three hours that was left and I still have one hour is on the more than 15% grade hillsides and has to be done in 4-wheel drive. After two hours, I did not have enough left in me to keep a death grip on a tractor fender so I wouldn’t slide off the other side <—- not kidding on that one😳😳

DH called and it turns out supper will be from Fazolis, including a good amount of their garlic bread sticks which are some of the best I’ve ever eaten👍👍

You know @Knave you and @boots post the BEST ranching pictures😎😎

They tell the story and they are post card perfect. You both have a knack for letting people feel what’s in the picture😘😘

She is @walkinthewalk. She’s keeping that ankle bent too, and she keeps the leg in front of her most of the time, or on occasion picked up like it is with me hosing it. She’ll put weight on it when she walks, but with a huge gimp and then a stop and rest it.

She’s a very tough natured animal too. Never has she taken a single off step, not even a “this rock hurt” step. I’m actually quite worried she may have broken something. I won’t know until the vet can find the time to do X-rays. Since we’ve been on the list for a month, I’m really hoping it will be this coming week. I’d rather know.
Follow your gut. Send a picture or even a video to the vet and tell him this can’t wait. On the horrible chance it is fractured, I’m going to text Duncan’s previous owner. Duncan had a splint bone fracture in 2020 and made a full recovery - well he will never jump again but my sports medicine vet took x-rays and said Duncan healed much better than he would have expected.

I am going to ask her what she did initially. You aren’t out anything to try and will be headed in the right direction if there does happen to be fracture. I’ll let you kno2 as soon as I hear back from her but that could take awhile.

I heard back from Duncan’s previous owner.

I quote:

” right when he broke his leg I gave him 10 cc of pain meds he was on stall rest for weeks with his leg wrapped. The vet gave me some cream for the inflammation that helped. Then we slowly hand walked starting with five minutes as long as he could do it comfortably.“

I hope your dad is right🤠. I would rather poultice a sprain, than have the nightmare of a fracture but I’m with you on the $200 for x-rays - better to know for sure😇😇

1. @Knave how is Queen doing and di you have a chance to corral the vet when you went into town? Why small rural towns are a good thing👍👍

2. The new farrier came today - his third visit, he loves both of my horses, and he does a BTA job on their hooves, 👍😎👍😎

He is really patient with Duncan, who deals with an old splint bone fracture, and a lot of arthritis in one hock. The farrier appreciates that I have Duncan’s bad legs vet wrapped (sort of like ace bandage support) and give Duncan a Previcox just before he arrives, so he is great about texting me when he’s 20 or so minutes out.

The farrier has ~150 clients and also rodeos - saddle broncs. I asked him if he ever participates in Bull Poker, he said “no those guys are stupid” 😳😂😳😂

3. The critter chiropractor will be here tomorrow, Monday, for both horses and both dogs. I’m broke this week for sure🤯🤯

4. I only know Duncan’s winter coat is coming in because he is changing color - his coat is still too short to grab hold of it. He is probably going to need a coat a few days thru the winter.

Duncan’s size 80 blankets were too big so I had to send them back. He measured at 79, the Rule of Thumb is to go up. Not this time, lollol.

Customer Service at SStack.com is gold. Two of the ladies re-evaluated the side view I had sent of Duncan and decided to still keep him in the same model turnouts but to go down a size. They also sent me, at no charge, surcingle extenders in case I need them.

The size 78’s are a perfect fit, so he is ready for Middle Tennessee’s “winters”, which are colder and sometimes more blustery than winters in his previous home in Southern California 🥴🥴

5. As I speak of winter blankets, we are expecting the coming week to be in the 90’s with Wednesday predicted at around 95 and the Feels Like in triple digits😳😳. No blankets next week but cold showers won’t be out of the question.

@Knave If it’s anything, I hope Queen has a sprain instead of a fracture. I think sprains take a very long time to improve? Lots of icing or cold hosing.

@Txshecat0423 and that IS quite a bed time story. I still have a pair of rusty pig denutters from growing up on the farm, if you’d like to borrow them to use on the vet🤯🤯

Do you have a lameness specialist or sports medicine vet within your driving area? I think I’d be taking Skip to someone else.

FWIW, my Arab would drag his hind toes (looked like snake trails in the dirt) when his back needed adjusted. I rescued him with vertebra injuries when he was seven. The PT who would work on the race horses where I boarded, found the injury and Streeter saw a chiropractor as needed for the rest of his life.

I don’t know the formal names of the skeletal structure but his injury was right about where the back of the saddle would sit. It caused havoc with his back end and when he would start dragging his toes, I knew it was time to call the chiropractor.

I hope Boo works out for you and Skip can retire - although Skip may not want to retire.

Soooo -you bought Boo sight unseen, I took Duncan in, sight unseen —- we probably shouldn’t publish that since there are people with little-to-no experience who should not do that😂😂

The critter chiropractor was here yesterday, Monday. Last month everyone but the Rottweiler was good and just got massages - can’t say the same for this month. Rusty was leaning so hard into the chiropractor I thought his 1,100+ pound self might push her over, even though she was well braced. I’m sorry I missed that Kodak Moment because he’s never done that before.

The horses are furring up for winter and our temps are in “weather alert” mode for today and tomorrow. Our Feels Like will no doubt hit triple digits both days. I am ecstatic - no - I - am - NOT🤐🤐

@JCnGrace they have you well trained😂😂

It‘s bad enough where the deposit was left, then to step on the manure fork and say “I think not”” is pretty brazen😂😂

Whichever horse that is should clean up after itself, if it’s that smart😘😂😘😂

How‘s your weather? It was a hot and very humid August night last night. I set the fans to run in the horses until one this morning. Nashville broke a record with 99 and will likely break another record today, then we are supposed to plummet almost thirty degrees by tomorrow.

It was 94 where I live with a dewpoint in the 70’s - oh happy day but I’m trying not to whine too much as things could be a lot worse🥴🥴

1. We hit 95 degrees yesterday, the dewpoint was 71 degrees and the temps were still 91 at 7:30 last night. It was still 75 at 5:30 this morning. Why I ran the fans on the horses until 1:00 AM, and we will stay in the 70’s all day. It will feel like Fall for the rest of the week. Maybe now I can get something done outside.

2. Yesterday I took my second bag of rolled oats back to TSC within three weeks. This bag looked ok but the mold smell hit my nose as soon as I opened the bag. I was not happy.

@stevenson that “Adrenalin pumping“ we talked about to undo stuff our husbands tighten down on was in full mode as I had to tape up a 50# bag of oats, get it to my car and lift it into the back seat; good thing my Saturn is a low rider.

Thennnnn, when two of the sales clerks smelled the oats they both claimed they couldn’t smell anything wrong🤯🤐🤯🤐.

I was even less happy about that. I said there is a strong moldy odor in that bag, oats are not supposed to have an odor. They traded me for a good bag of oats, which the girl sliced open before I took it. I bought some other stuff but still left there P.O.’d.

I will be calling TSC’s customer service mostly for the second bag of bad oats because there were no tears in the bags, the product was bad from from the manufacturing plant. I did some digging and discovered that Producers Pride is manufactured by a division of Purina, who has been on my black list for years.

I have other options to buy rolled oats but it will take me out of my way by a good amount and that does not set well with me either.

I doubt there’s any horse owner on this forum, who has had horses at home for any length of time that hasn’t had to return bad feed, and knows how frustrating it is. It‘s been many many years since I have had to worry about a bad bag of anything because I buy everything on line for my easy keepers—— Duncan is NOT an easy keeper and eats completely different from Rusty🥴🥴

3. My vacuum bag is full of mostly black dog hair, so I have to change that in order to to continue one of my favorite (not) things, lol

4. I have to mow but not because the real grass grew. That worthless Dallis grass is once again towering over the real grass and all this heat has caused the pods to start seeping again.

5. Venting & whining done; I truly am thankful that’s all I have to complain about, lol.

Duncan enjoying his chiropractic treatment. It is something to watch whena horse first says “no that hurts”. Then when the hurt leaves, the light goes on and they say “ok! More!” 😍😍

I didn‘t even have to hold Duncan🥰

@ksbowman I have spent too much money on vacuumss that are easy for me to maneuver. When it’s all said and done, I still go back to my 20 year old Sears Kenmore upright that can still pull the skin up on the Rottenweiler, lollol.

I keep the hose attachment on it , to get baseboards and in corners. I drag the clunky thing around because it still picks up dog hair from any surface the best. I’m sure I could find something that worked as good or better and was easier to manage for a couple thousand dollars, but I’m too old to spend that on a vacuum cleaner that would likely outlive me😂😂

@stevenson am I reading correctly? Your R/Etaxes went up by $800😳😳. Ours also went up but by $100 I think. It’s gone up a total of $500 in the 19 years we’ve been here and I’m not happy about that. We have enough farming acreage to qualify for the Green Belt or it would be a lot worse.

I’m pretty sure the hired help at all of the TSC stores think we should just be happy with any old bag of feed or throw it out if it‘s bad and take the money hit — 🤐🤯🤐🤯

13 taxes for schools. Its ridiculous. They need to take the school bonds/taxes off property and just add it at the end of the year on taxes . So people whom rent are not paying for the schools their kids attend !
Don’t get me started on renters not paying their fair share of school taxes😡. The RE tax increase before this one went for a big addition to one of the schools.

Retired people should not be footing the bill for schools they don't have children in. People who have children should be footing those tax increases, regardless of whether they own real estate or not.
