Feed was made up of:
Oaten Chaff, lucern chaff, bran, calm performer pellets, copra and sunflower seeds :)

I am pretty sure that is not a tooth but what it is & where it came from, I haven't a clue. What does it smell like?

I know right? *barf*
Now that I look up more photos of large ergots, it could be possible. But I pick her hooves out every day, surely I would've noticed if she had an ergot that big?!

So it could be an ergot...but I don't think it could be hers...which has confused me even more lol

Those aren't ergots, those are chestnuts.
Out of all the photos that I've seen, the thing I have looks most like this one.

I am now just confused as to how it got in my horses feed as it is not rom my horse, I don't know if I'll ever be able to find that out.

Oh my this thread is cracking me up! "Ergot, chestnut, ergot, ergot, errrrrgot." I don't know why but it made me laugh:)

My first thought was a chestnut, but I don't think thats really feasible. It doesnt look like a tooth... uh I have no idea but now I would say ergot.

pretty icky . not a tooth. chestnuts on the inside leg knee area , ergots on the back of the pastern.. primitive toes are what they be..

Definitely not a tooth... I have a horse tooth in a jar, we found it while cleaning up the yard where I board and vet confirmed it to be a horse tooth. Will get pics when small kiddo isn't sleeping (it's her prized possession).

Okay, so I've come to the conclusion that it is definitely either a large ergot or an overgrown chestnut. (was not even considering it to be either at the beginning but after looking at pics I have become convinced).

Either way, it has definitely not come off of my horse, which leads me to belive it was in her feed :? I'm not sure about exactly what it was in but am thinking that it was with the pellets.

Will definitely be paying attention whilst making up feeds from now on!
