Happy Friday!

1. Hotel 1928 in Waco, TX a gorgeous revived hotel to visit.

“ You might not expect to find a time capsule of the Art Deco era in Waco, Texas, but Chip and Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper fame have made that possible with Hotel 1928. Though the interior provides a nice mix of modern amenities and historic touches, the famous couple—known for their modern farmhouse style and funny on-screen antics—were still able to capture in this space what fans love so much: Their ability to make anywhere feel like home.”

2. The South Sandwich Trench: “The South Sandwich Trench reaches depths of about 8,500 meters (27,900 feet), making it one of the deepest trenches in the Atlantic Ocean. It is located near the South Sandwich Islands, a volcanic archipelago that results from the subduction process occurring at the trench.”

3. Ball lightening: “ Its causes and its relation to common lightning are not known, but among the suggested explanations are: air or gas behaving abnormally, high-density plasma phenomena, an air vortex containing luminous gases, and microwave radiation trapped within a plasma bubble.”

4. Weather.

5. Supper.

6. Everything else.

I always liked their show.

I imagine ocean depths are amazing landscapes. Don't think I could explore them though. Would probably get claustrophobic in one of those diving machines.

Have seen a video of ball lightening but have never seen it in real life.

We are in the middle of a warm up (above freezing LOL) but it ends Saturday and then back to brrrrr! Still have a lot of snow on the ground though, I don't think we'll get rid of all of it before temps fall again.

Supper = ? I think hubs is going to town tomorrow so he will probably bring me home some fast food so that I don't have to cook.

This weekend we will be attending our second memorial service in a weeks time. Not fun! The guy with downs that I talked about a few weeks ago had a stroke right after Christmas then died last week and hubby's friend died the 3rd of Jan. but it's his service this weekend. Not starting the year off too good.

Other than the above all is good here. Critters haven't let this cold weather slow them down any.

Happy Friday!

1. I like old buildings and am glad some are restored. Sheridan, WY has an "art deco" theater that I enjoy. They host a wide variety of shows and events. I like it so much my next trip "home" starts with a show there.

2. The ocean is fascinating to me. I have no desire to explore it or even spend much time near one, but it certainly is interesting.

3. I experienced small amounts of that phenomenon and one large, pretty terrifying one.

Moving yearlings. Storm came up. Hubby was on point. A kid an I were managing the rest. The "lightning" was rolling/bouncing this way and that. A couple times I could see hub and his horse kind of riding off and I struggled to see if animals were trying to break off. They weren't. Husband and/or horse were just getting goofy.

Kid and I were okay. Yearnings were okay and we got them were they needed to he. Husband couldn't speak coherently for a few hours and was jumpy. Of course other hands asked a) how I could tell there was a problem if goofy was a symptom, and b) if the electricity actually improved his cognition since he became coherent.

4. Fixing to get cold again. Oh well.

5. Either chicken fajitas or cabbage rolls.

6. This week was hay, cubes, senior feed, farrier... I'm bleeding money!

Happy Friday! I'm finally getting a little bit of time off, although I'll have to start getting my shop ready for a February reopening, soon.

I worked through until NYE, then cat-sat for a friend. Then spent five days out of town, helping my parents pack and move. Which was pretty gruelling; although they have downsized somewhat, they still had too many things, and were moving into a smaller home. My mother is overly sentimental about everything, so it was a process. I joked about giving up on sorting anything, and just starting to chuck random old papers and nick nacks into boxes marked Random Crap... and by the last day, I was actually doing that. It's all good, we have good senses of humour. And there was much wine consumed in the evenings.

Recently, Elle had been over some lingering allergy stuff, and we were finding our groove riding again, finally, and it was feeling good. Aaaaand then she took a small canter bounce funny the other night and came up limping on her hind foot after that workout (which has its own discussion thread). She seeeeeems to be making a quick recovery. Next week here is supposed to go down to -20 C, so some short gentle hand walking in the shelter of the indoor sounds just fine. If she seems totally good by the end of next week, I'll decide my next step from there.

I've been starting back on a little bit of artwork. I haven't done any larger paintings in ages, so it's time to get back into that. Life always gets in the way somehow.

I have also been cooking a LOT of big-batch slow cooker meals. I can spend 20 minutes of prep, then portion the results out into 10-12 small servings. So far I've made a squash root vegetable soup, with a hint of vindaloo curry paste for warmth, a carrot and squash and corn soup, and two batches of hearty, peppery beef stew. I keep a couple portions in the fridge for immediate enjoyment, and the rest go into the basement deep freeze.

Here's a fun little video of Elle enjoying the arena -- right before she injured herself by going all kamikaze on some low gymnastics. Hopefully she'll be back to these antics soon! Almost 28, and still a silly goose.

I always like going thru old buildings. They are so interesting and if they have old furniture and furnisings so much the better.

Never seen ball lightening but, have seen videos of it.

Weather is to change drastically tomorrow and getting real cold for 4-5 days after that. I'm ready for winter to be over.

Supper will be scollaps, shrimp and an Alfredo pasta. asparagus, garlic bread and a salad.

Just been doing work items around the place. No riding this week as it is too icy and I won't take a chance on hurting a horse riding on it.

I know where Hotel 1928 is. I live pretty close to Waco. They have some cool stuff in Waco: Texas Rangers museum - they have some Bonnie & Clyde stuff in that; Texas Sports Hall of Fame, and Dr Pepper museum. They also have an old settlement there with a working blacksmith forge, general store, one room schoolhouse, it’s Governor Bill Daniels’ Historic Village close to Baylor University.

I’m not a fan of oceans…or lightning!

Still on the search for a horse. Had a meet and greet scheduled for tomorrow morning but too many red flags kept popping up and I’m trying so hard not to be stupid this time. I am going to register for an online auction that’s being held tomorrow about 3 hours from me. Should be an interesting experience.

I know there’s National “everything” day, but today I wish it was my own personal “National Punch People Who Irritate the 💩 Out of Me” Day. I have a list 😈

Weather is up and down, up and down, been beautiful this week, but first true freeze hits beginning Sunday night I think.

Supper is leftovers. I’ve cooked a lot this week but we need to clean out the fridge.

Y’all have a good weekend and upcoming week. Stay safe and warm.

He would have heart failure if a bunch if us showed up for supper on the same evening😂😂

Waco sounds like a great place to visit — and then visit you — if only I were younger 😇😇

We Have been in the 50’s yesterday & today. We are slowly going in the tank by next week. What worries me is the possibility of below zero nights and 20 degree days for several continuous days. That is never good for pipes, vehicle radiators, or livestock.

Monday and Tuesday are looking like 💩💩for southern Middle Tennessee. At least the sun will be shining. Duncan-the-Dutch Warmblood loves the cold but I think even this will test his mettle. Ali-The-Arab likes the cold but not as much as Duncan. I suspect he will spend the nights in the back stall where it’s warmer. Hopefully I don’t lose power so their water stays warm😇😇

I like Chip and Joanna, I think they do nice work.
I love old buildings with character. I hate seeing older homes that have character gutted for the 'open floor plan' on steroids look.

We don't get a lot of thunder and lightening here, and never in the summer time. We have lightening events maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

The weather is gorgeous this week. Chilly but not cold and bright sunshine. The perfect January days. It will be in the low 60's today.

Last night I made my Korean/Asian noodle dish with ground pork, ramen noodles, cabbage, carrots, green opinions, and crushed peanuts. Its ridiculously easy to make and I think my husband is getting sick of it!

@ksbowman has the right idea for dinner, but so does @SteadyOn - love a good soup/stew.

Most of those HGTV shows give me hives because they ruin lovely things and lobotomize houses, and there's a whole lot of open concept happening that shouldn't be. But the hotel doesn't look bad. Not quite as Art Deco as they could've done but hotels are often a bit muted in style, looks like a nice place to relax. (and in my line of work I see a TON of different types of residences, from 18th century farmhouses on the historical register to contemporary apartments built within the last 5 years.)

I have a healthy respect for the ocean. There's so much we don't know and don't have the technology to explore, it's pretty incredible what might be happening down there.

Never seen ball lightning. I'd like to, from a safe location.

Today is much milder - into the 30s, and it sounds like tomorrow will also be quite warm, through Sunday, then alleged snow on Sunday night followed by a stretch of deep cold weather. I'm pretty stubborn, I gotta say, but if the high on Tuesday is only going to be 15 I might have to skip the riding. That might be my limit, and my toes' and fingers' limit.

I'm working today, off the weekend, and working Monday. I shifted by schedule Monday because my church is hosting the city's annual MLK Day Celebration, and our choir is singing together with a local Baptist church. The Baptist church is 150 years old and was, at one time, the center of a thriving African-American neighborhood in my city. Much of the neighborhood was razed to build the extension of I-90, but the church and congregation have remained. We've sung with them before and their director is great. Luckily the event is in the morning, so I can get away with a simple shift of my hours.

Got suddenly bombarded with hugs after the service. It was from members of my Indy family that I hadn't seen in a while. It becomes a shame when you only see people who you care about at funerals. :(

Indy family = the horse breeder's family I was unofficially adopted into when I lived in Indianapolis. They already had 5 kids, what was one more! LOL Anyway, all the kids were there except the oldest and her husband is suffering from dementia so it's hard for her to get away.

How fortunate was I to have 2 families that I love? When I see members of either one I'm reminded how blessed I am to have these people in my life.

The service was nice but sad, of course.

Lots of hits on this thread, but very few comments.

I am pretty sure h-e-l-l has frozen over this week.

One of my four wheelers finally started so I didn’t have to walk everywhere to take care of the horses. The other one the starter is shot in it. My poor Honda is as dependable as they can get except for that starter. I don’t know if it’s a design flaw, but I go through starters on it.

Anyway, we got to 32° today with sunshine woo hoo. Tomorrow will be a high of 39° degrees in with sunshine. It is supposed to warm up into the 40s from there.

I’m pretty sure the biggest share of the United States will be really glad when this cold is over with. I think the weatherman said my area has seen a total of 100 consecutive hours below the freezing mark. That’s a lot. I was worried about the waterlines because they don’t dig them quite as deep down here as I am used to on the Ohio/PA border. Thankfully, everything seems to be OK.

I hope everyone and their critters are doing well🙏🙏

The boys a few days back when we had a dusting of snow - the only snow - we just stayed in the freezer for the rest of the time🥶🥶

My handsome Duncan on the right and @cobra ‘s handsome Ali on the left.🥰🥰

They were looking at four deer about to come through the main pasture.

Very much so Walkinthewalk, very much so.

I think we've all pretty much been wrapped up in our own dramas and the weather threads have kept us all occupied.

While not frozen over, there is certainly a freeze line in the bay.

Hubby has shared his cold. I took a call today, and the caller even had to ask if this was me! I guess I sound kind of rough. I feel icky. But thankfully, he's about over it.

@walkinthewalk forgive me, but I got a giggle out of your forecast "dangerous cold". We call that "not too bad", heck it's above 0!

I have a very dear friend that is on the beach in TX, she got snow. Hard to believe they are colder than we are.

All in all our weather is not that bad, highs in the upper 30's, lows in the low 20's. Not bad for January. I can remember going out to feed in Jan when it was well below 0 and the wind blowing. You'd feed a bit, get back in my feed truck and warm up some, then go out and feed more. And being very glad I didn't have to set and juice on a cow!

We got switched over to fiberoptic internet today. Turns out, they didn't even offer the package we'd had for years any longer!

We have so much happening right now, I don't have time to be sick, but I don't have a choice either. So I will take a few days off, rest and stay warm.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Been crazy around here.

Battery died in my 4-wheeler yesterday so for the last 2 days used hubby's. The horses usually meet me at the barn at feeding time but me driving his machine has them discombobulated. So they drag themselves in like they are walking to the gallows. LOL I keep telling them this cold weather is not the time for them to expect me to stand there and yell and whistle (my version of whistling anyway, which is not much of a whistle) for 15 minutes. If I go in the barn to get out of the wind, they stop their forward movement.

Today was the day hubs went to pick up our new computer that is capable of running windows 11 which supposedly the one we have now is not. He took our current computer with him so the guy could make sure every thing we used was also installed on the new. All this to say I was without a computer since yesterday morning.

Don't know if it was our wi-fi or hubs and the computer guy trying to sign into my e-mail but I got a security alert on my phone and then it stopped working. Because all I knew for sure was that it wouldn't let me send a text or make a call, I went ahead and stuck it in my pocket when I went to feed in case hubs tried to call. When I got to the barn (out of wi-fi range) it started pinging all over the place. Hubs had been trying to call and text all day. Called him back and he said he was flying home because he thought something had happened to me. Thank goodness he didn't have a wreck or get a ticket.

Wish me luck on learning how to use windows 11, I'm not fond of change (wonder who the horses get it from). Still on the old computer right now, supposedly the support for our version of windows doesn't end until October so knowing me I'll wait until the last minute to learn and be kicking and screaming when I have to. LOL

@JCnGrace its times like you are experiencing that I really hate technology. It’s only fun when it works.

I am so sorry about your four wheeler. It’s got to be this frigid weather. Neither one of mine have started for the last few days in this below freezing. My Honda has always been faithful, but the starter went out of it yet again. I did get the Kawasaki to start yesterday after we got above freezing, but guess what it’s 17° this morning and it won’t start so I had to hoof it to do all the chores

Like your horses, my Horses are not used to coming to a camouflage green Kawasaki lol lol I said if you want to eat, you better get in the barn.

I hope things go well with you and the new computer and all the upgrades. I sure do hate them. I hate having to update my smart phone and iPad when it tells me updates are required.🤯

@walkinthewalk , my battery was dead, dead so hubs picked up a new one while he was in Bloomington yesterday. The horses will be happy to hear the Polaris heading to the barn today. LOL His 4-wheeler is a Yamaha and it eats starters too.

If it wasn't for this forum and all the great people on it, I could do without a computer. I like the games I have on it too but it wouldn't bother me to lose them near as much as to lose touch with all of you. 💕

I'm with you on technology girlfriend!
