Hey--great pix everyone!! I'm another who doesn't care for changing the times--just pick one and done already. One thing I love about elephants is how close knit the families are. Like when one passes away the others all stand around and touch the body with their trunks saying goodbye before they leave. And how they all take care of an orphaned calf and try to help an injured herd mate, etc, etc. They are so smart. I missed the Fri night convo earlier about mammoths but we had Columbian mammoths here in Oregon too and lots of other cool prehistoric critters. Date: February 12, 2018 Source: University of Oregon Summary: "A fossilized trackway on public lands in Lake County, Ore., may reveal clues about the ancient family dynamics of Columbian mammoths. Researchers who excavated a portion of the path found 117 footprints thought to represent a number of adults as well as juvenile and infant mammoths. " Did a limping mammoth mom leave these tracks? "Large rhino-like brontotheres roam a semitropical forest. Dog-sized, three-toed horses dart between the trees. The cat-like nimravid and bear dogs stalk their prey. The climate cools and forests alter to dryer grasslands. Saber tooth cats and camels get replaced by mountain lions and deer. Paleontologists learn more about the ancient animals and environment with every new fossil they discover." John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) Weather has been pretty mild and the grass is growing again. Just got down to 36F last night though so gradually getting cooler. More rain coming as well. I don't celebrate Halloween but have a client in Memory Care next Wednesday for their Halloween family dinner. They usually let us eat a dinner with them for free so we'll see how that goes. Barn building still going good. Got the stall fronts built and delivered. Getting cement poured inside soon. Still working on fencing but should have enough done for a pasture and the horse runs by Thanksgiving. So maybe the horses can move out there by then. What a blessing that would be. Here's a pic I took of Aspens in Utah with fall colors--

1. I too wish we would stay on one time system year round.

2. I don't know much on the elephant front, but they are majestic.

4. We were 29 days without rain til last night when we got .01 of an inch. It helped nothing. We need rain bad, i'm worryiing about the trees now with a low moisture of winter coming.

5. Supper will be smoked pork chops, French fries and green beans.

6. I've been doing lots of odds and ends getting ready for winter and riding at every chance. Also I've been working with my buddy Daisy on self confidence with working cattle. It has been going very well for a cattle washout at her last home. Hear are a series of pictures showing her gathering a single heifer for me and bringing to the cattle pens. She retreived 2 this being the second from about 250 yards so you'll have to blow the pictures up to see her work. Needless to say I'm very proud of her. First picture see is aproaching the heifer, then moving around her ( Fetch to me), next starting her towards me ( get around her). bringing her to me ( Come to me) and then keeping her coming towards the pen up a fence and slow up ( walk to me). For some reason they came up in the wrong order but, the bottom pic. should have been at the top..

Hey, got a question for you.

IF she is bred, who is she bred to?

This photo was taken a while ago during my second meeting with these two elephants. My first meeting we fed them a case of Snickers bars. This meeting I was able to stand between them in their trailer and hold both trunks in my arms. The owner of these guys died a few years ago and I have not seen the animals in years. They live in Texas.

After being around these guys I fell in love with elephants….. the look on my face says it all.

@younghorsetrainer that is a fine looking lizard! But yes, best it be far away from the geese.

The clocks moving are exhausting. Time has no meaning as it is. But I do understand that we could have some bizarre 3-4 hour days (depending on where one is on the planet), so on the one hand, it's frustrating, on the other hand ... it's only twice a year right? The days are rapidly shortening here - today's sunset in Boston was 1746. Technically, however, civil twilight (the time when the centerpoint of the sun is just below the horizon) was 1815.

We'll see what La Nina brings. There have been some harder winters with a weak La Nina before. But could be mild for us, as the last couple have been.

The weather is cooling out after a series of warm days. Jasper was bright and energetic. I needed a hoodie when I got to the barn, a vest on the ride, and was warm enough after walking with kiddo and Jas in the round pen to be in a t-shirt. Of course, then I got home and started shivering, so I'm back in a hoodie. Still sunny, still dry - Boston has had all of 0.75" of rain thus far this month, much much lower than average. On the one hand lots of very pretty riding days on the other, fire danger and thirsty ground.

Had pasta for dinner. Not too terribly hungry.

Tomorrow is work - I have a trainee, someone I haven't met yet. I'm going to ask for a reprieve next week as my coursework this week is in applied biostatistics, and stats/hard math is not my strong suit by any means. Sunday I'm headed to a costume/Halloween ride at the state forest, and Monday is a Halloween party at dance. My friend and I are debuting our rotaries-based reel which should be fun. And Thursday - Halloween for real - is also one year since I bought Jasper.

I dont know the names of your horses, but the grey mare you are asking about. Then yes, that's who I am asking who is she bred to.
If she's pregnant, then she's bred to my friend's purebred Quarter Horse colt, a really good looking colt. He's about 2 1/2 years-3 years old now, I forget, and he was really really good looking even when he was 1 1/2 years old, which to me shows promise for a stunning horse when he grows up!

His mom is a registered Quarter Horse and his dad was a well known stud from a very prominent ranch in Uruguay if I've got all my facts straight.

I don't have any conformation photos of him, but I have a few photos that I took a few months ago.
And here are a couple of videos showing him.

Happy Weekend!

1 Boo the time change. I prefer standard time, but either way, just stop with the nonsense!

2 Happy for the elephant. May he live a long and happy life.

3 Same weather as last year. I can handle that.

4 We got a tenth of an inch of rain yesterday at 2:30 a.m. I went outside in my pajamas and the kids' dog just to feel it. 10 weeks. Might get more next week.

5 Having a taco buffet. Make your own. Big choice of toppings. I don't know how many will be here so this was a decent option.

6 I have relatives in town from a couple states away. I appreciate the effort. They are completely, totally urban. I enjoy hearing about their interests. They enjoy experiencing our lives.

Last visit the guy helped me fence. Got cut. Has a miniscule scar. Said he shows everyone like a little kid.

This trip I offered to let him run my new chain saw. He started counting his fingers. 😆 And passed. 🤷‍♀️

And just because... To make the rest of you that like sweets be jealous of me because I've already eaten more than half the box!

I'm hoping that Sam's Club this year will have more of their sweets on clearance after Christmas. Got to stock up on the cocoa dusted truffles and other goodies that don't have a long shelf life (and therefore sent back to distribution for putting out the following year).

Hope you both brought enough for everyone! :D That brand isn't allowed over this side of the pond.

We've too many cakes and sweets at work, I'm trying to avoid them... it's so very hard.

A long day at work. There were herds of children in costumes on the way home. It must be their chosen Hallowe'en night rather than a school night.

Decorations going up in the town and a few neighbours have put wreaths on front doors and tumshie lanterns on steps.

Sunrise and ground mist this morning.

@Caledonian: As my dad used to say have a good night, sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite.

... So if you wake up tomorrow and think you dreamt my broom's muffler was misbehaving as I was landing, it wasn't a problem and I was able to roll up to your house with no issues. It was lovely sharing a cup of tea with you as well as some sweets. 🫂💕

EDIT: The landing lights in fall colors was a welcome sight, too! Thanks!

Another day on the tractor getting beat up. Dang that ground is ROUGH. But, I guess on the plus side, it sure makes that tub feel good in the evening!

Speaking of tea, I adore red tea. It can be hard to find, but it's soo good. Add a cookie, and that's lunch!

@Horse & Dog Mom , so did my Dad. Brings back some good memories!

So, another major life question for everyone to contemplate: Are you a tea/coffee dunker?

Me, no.

... I had a GF who would dunk a salami sandwich in her coffee with cream & sugar. 🤢
