@tempest I don’t know what it is about a couch that lets us fall asleep when the bed won’t. I hope you’re feeling better soon. If the fever doesn’t break, you may have to call the doctor.

Thanks for the barn pictures😍. I have never seen anything remotely resembling the “Appalachian Overhung Barn”. That looks like it could tip over at any moment.

The one on our NE Ohio farm was more similar to the “Farmyard Palace”. Sadly, a bad wind storm came along two years ago and destroyed it.

I think last week’s post count may have broke a record🤠🤠

The pest control fella had to come early today as he is doing a double route - 6:00 AM early and it was still dark dark dark. The Catahoula/Mix was NOT pleased and let everyone in the surrounding counties know it. The Rottweiler remained her usual “I’m on alert and will walk silent carry a big stick, until I think action is needed. If mom sez get him, then I will”. Her big self stood behind the Catahoua let him make an arwse out of himself😂😂

We are at our highest temps right now. Will be falling back into the 40’s, and into the 20’s tonight and tomorrow night — oh joy🤯🤐🤯🤐

@ClearDonkey sending healing thoughts to you as well. I hate when everyone gets sick like this.

Not sleeping when we’re supposed to be asleep it’s the worst part for sure.

I had the doctor write me a prescription for Singulair which seems to help with what they diagnosed me as having sinus rhinitis. It keeps my nose from draining and then I end up sick from all of that drainage. I try not to take that stuff anymore than I have to, so I watch the pollen count on the weather report every morning on TV lol

1. @dogpatch is the kitty picture Barney The Barn Cat? That cat is either part Himalayan or Siamese - it is beautiful 😍😍 I’ll bet with that Tri colored nose it’s a female.

I agree with your comment awhile back that the cat belongs to someone. Years ago a good friend had her female (spayed) cat disappear. Three YEARS later it returned😳😳. She was gobsmacked when she was heading to feed the horses one morning and Kitty met her at the porch door. Kitty stayed “home” for a few more years, until her end time arrived and my friend had to have her PTS’d.

Cats do the darndest and I think dumbest things sometimes👽👽

2. It was 60-something degrees yesterday, stayed in the 50’s all night. Wind came up with gusts in the 20 MPH, and pretty soon the rain let loose - it poured, the wind blew, it got cold, Duncan said “to Hay with this dog crap” and went to the barn”.

We will be down in the 20’s for the next three nights - never fear it will allegedly be 77 by Thursday🙄🙄

@JCnGrace im glad you found some flooring. I do not like being up at night. I used to sleep straight thru but not anymore. I‘ve been awake for an hour, it’s 3:00 AM and once again, I will probably fall back to sleep just when it’s time to wake up🤯🤐🤯🤐.

I have always been an early riser, even when I was a kid I would tell mom to make sure I was up and moving no later than 9:00 AM because my day was already starting to waste. Once I started working for GM and had to clock in at 6:00 AM, that 9:00 AM quickly moved to 5:00 AM, which suited me fine🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ I could however do without being wide awake at two or three AM, because I will fall back to sleep and waste my morning being tired anyway🙄🤯🙄🤯

@Caledonian I LOVE your pictures!! Even if I forget to say, I always love your pictures. They are stunning, and to think a modern day person gets to walk in the footsteps of that old history is amazing 😍😍

It was 38 when I brought the horses up for supper; at least the wind had died down. Our daffodils are done blooming, the Bradford Pears are done flowering and turning green, the Redbud trees are in full bloom with their pretty purple flowers before leafing up. We are supposed to hit 20 tonight so that means we could see high teens.

Grass is growing in some areas of the hard to where I am going to have to mow next week, like it or not, but here we are in a night two of a three night hard freeze🤐🤐

That said, here are my precious and handsome seniors getting guided into the front pasture for supper and bed time tonight. Duncan would come up to the barn on his own but he won’t move until Rusty does, and Rusty won’t move until he sees me on the 4-wheeler shaking the buggy whip at him, lol

This was ~15 minutes later while they were eating supper. My cell phone did not capture how glorious the sunset was. Venus is still visible, Jupiter has disappeared ☹

This weather is making days drag. On the Weather Channel I saw pictures of parts of Kern County, CA farmland under water. Their winter crops are ruined. Livestock is not surviving. Not only Is this a tragedy for the farmers who are just getting by, the price of anything and everything will no doubt skyrocket.

Looking at the U.S. weather map on the Weather Channel, nobody is exempt from some sort of abnormal weather.

Keep your livestock drinking. I have added a little more non-iodized sea salt to the feed pans. I watch them pee every chance I get because the thicker the urine, the more water the horse needs.

Monday at 4:24 PM Central it will officially the first day of spring and it doesn’t feel like it, We are at 28 degrees as I write this and will drop another 8-9 degrees. The good news is we should hit 52 with full sunshine . Still below normal but better than these last several days have been.

Hopefully the rest of the U.S. is in the same warming trend - maybe not back up to normal but at least better than it has been and those buried in feet of snow won‘t see it melting too fast.

@JCnGrace it‘s 19 degrees at 5:45 AM🤯🤯. This is lovely for the gauge on the propane tank🤐🤐. Once DH goes to work, I will cut the heat back to 66😳😳

Full sunshine is still predicted with a high of 54 - that’s only ten degrees below normal🤐🤐.

The dogs didn’t get to check fences yesterday - they are not happy but they’re quiet because they’re older, lol. I’ll take them today.

The horses are good with these temps as long as it isn’t raining and the wind isn’t trying to carry them into the next county. I am still wide-eyed that, after an entire life in SoCal, Duncan loves this cold weather— further testimony to the influence of his Nordic genes.

I’m sorry you didn’t get your hair cut. if it gets long enough by Summer (which is a whole ‘nuther subject given the winter we’re having , put it up in a rooster tail to keep it it out of your face At the barn, I can’t stand my hair hanging in my face at home but I’ll do everything I can to cover it when I go to town😂😂. Decent hair is about all I have left - “decent” being the operative 🥸

I keep saying this but I fear that “m” word is fast becoming a reality, probably today, if the steep hill is dry enough; it’s always that hill, where I slide off the tractor, that needs mowed first🤯🤯

Those horses, Rusty & Duncan, were baaaaad eggs Monday morning. They decided they were not coming in for breakfast - not even when I tried to herd them on the 4-wheeler, which I do all the time. They were too busy trying to figure out what was happening at the westerly neighboring farm, 2,000 feet away. They wanted the gate open to the main pasture. Well - that - did - not happen. They have 3-4 acres between the house and barn for the night and that’s where they stayed until they figured out two hours later, they had better get in the barn for breakfast If they wanted to see the main pasture.

Turn about being fair play, I didn’t see them go in the barn to wait for supper but I did see them come back out and head for the main pasture. I had to go after them but it was my fault as they only have so much wait in them and it was probably pay back for the morning😇🥰😇🥰

Duncan will be here one year on March 31st. He has come a long way from not knowing how to graze to now not being afraid to take the lead out to pasture. He sort of seems to occasionally be sharing the lead with Rusty who never did want to be a leader but is trying his darndest these days to be one🥰🥰

Many years ago a good friend and her husband did a lot of traveling in their RV. the dogs (who were rescues) always went with them but the Dachshund didn’t trust them to remember her. Her little self would sit directly behind the front wheel, close to the step up into the front passenger seat of the RV😳😳

Risky business for such a little dog, the first few times.

Interesting about the green and rank smell of the water. Either a sludge pipe has broke somewhere or someone is running off “stuff” they shouldn’t be. I’m not sure but what I wouldn’t report it, if you have any environmental groups that care.

1. I had already decided to cut Duncan’s oats back to zero and after seeing him carrying on in the rain today, I can’t wait until the bag is empty😂😂. He is just too full of himself, plus I have to press pretty hard to feel his ribs.

2. It rained all day, until around 4:00 PM. we are plenty soggy but nothing compared to what some areseeing.

3. I am still watching ”The Farmer Wants A Wife” on Fox. It is stupid but not quite as stupid as the other dating shows. I just know the drama is soon going to kick up a few notches.

I still can’t believe Jennifer Nettles agreed to host this show — they must have paid her a lot of money.

4. I still haven’t mowed - I think the word is procrastinate. With this rain and hitting close to 80 tomorrow—————I‘ll be watching it grow another inch or two🤯🤯

5. IHeart Music Awards will be on Fox Monday night. I’ll record that so I can forward past Anything I don’t want to hear🥸🥸

6. There were tornadoes in California - I hope everyone is safe, as well as all of those in the line of fire across the U.S. 2023 seems to be The Year Of The Storms.

Chinese food—- I used to love Chinese food - until around 2010? I was still at my part time retirement job. We went to a local spotlessly clean Chinese restaurant for lunch. I was a dog’s hair away from throwing up when I found half a cockroach in the rice I was about to put on my fork (I can’t use chop sticks). This was after I had already eaten a few bites🤮🤮

I reported them, an inspection was allegedly done, they continued to stay open, and I have not eaten Chinese food since. My ex also called it cat food😂😂

My area is already at a Level 2 risk for bad weather Friday night. we will see more rain but how much is anybody’s guess. I am so glad this farm has naturally good drainage. The little ravine below the barn is a good four feet deep water drains to it from two directions, three if we are pummeled with rain. It then flows west to the bottomland where the horses like to graze. They are savvy about not getting themselves in too deep because there is a lot of clay mud under mud that water.

Yesterday Duncan came flying up thru the front pasture. He barely slowed down to make the very muddy turn through the paddock, up to the barn. He made that muddy turn without a single slide but when he does stuff like this, all I see is his fractured splint bone x-ray flashing before my eyes. He is giving me the rest of the gray hair Joker didn‘t get to.

Duncan has a beautiful “Arab floaty motion” to him when he trots BUT he sets those big hooves down hard. He would be a rough trot to sit if one couldn’t post. I can hear him coming from a far distance when he is trotting🥰🥰

I think country life is agreeing with Duncan. Yes, it adds to your gray hair but I bet at the same time it makes you happy to see such youthfulness out of him.

I THINK last week’s thread broke the record for number of posts. Over time, it has become a great gathering place where whining, bragging, venting, trading ideas - nearly everything ok as long as we don’t get into controversial topics.

I‘m still subbing for @aubie. Since I’m old enough to be his grandma, the trivia stuff is a little different but I try to keep the direct questions the same. We REALLY appreciate everyone’s input, the thread could not be successful otherwise😇😇

I am prepared —- if I can just stay awake until the central time zone clock strikes midnight🫣🫣
